Enjoyable vertical drama, with class acting
I came across this program through social media recommendations, and after watching it, I can definitely see why it’s getting so much praise. The acting was outstanding, and the chemistry between the lead characters really stood out. The storyline kept me engaged from start to finish, with no dull moments whatsoever.The program runs just under three hours, but it flies by thanks to the compelling plot and performances.
The only downside for me was the vertical screen format, which I found a bit off putting . However, I understand it was designed with mobile viewing in mind, so I can overlook that.
Overall, it’s something I’d definitely consider rewatching in the future.

Entertaining romp about a modern girl with modern morals
Set up the typical tale of a general with a marriage of convenience who comes back from the border with a new wife. The scheming concubine, the interfering empress, the doting dad with (another) scheming wife and spoiled daughter, the prince who wants to usurp the throne, along with some sort of weird parasite that needs blood and you probably have a typical C-drama.BUT now add in a thoroughly modern girl who continues being modern throughout and you have a lot of hilarity and some steamy scenes. Steam is pretty steamy between our emperor and modern girl who end up breaking a bathtub! For that alone its worth a re-watch.
Threatened by the emperor she bends the knee and begs but with a wink of "well, I've done this before at my PR job so one more time won't hurt." The thing is the emperor plays it all with straight which makes their scenes even more funny. Like when she sets off the signal flare and the entire army mobilizes (ROFLMAO).
Does she care her husband brought in a new wife? That's a big nope. She'd much rather have the new wife become star wife so she can get her divorce. If the new wife had just played along with her, everyone would have a happy ending but schemers must scheme.
Most of the costumes are ridiculous. The FL's headgear is almost as tall as the Pope's LOL and I swear it gets bigger each time I see it. It's like a cake topper of a Bridezilla's wedding cake! With the guy's outfits you know the costumer said they all needed MORE BRAID!!
Sets are limited. Music almost non-existent. The eps are very short and chopped up so continuity sometimes suffers. The plot hole that he has other wives and concubines is never really dealt with.
Shout out to the Emperor's eunuch who plays matchmaker and enjoys seeing his master happy.
The only place I found it was on YT on Daily Motion and even then you have to keep searching to find the subtitles. And the English subs are BAD! Like you'll grimace reading how bad the translations are.

This is a GEM
What a Gem. Start with a great story, add professional actors, a good set and production team with good visuals and a nice OST and you get a perfect 10. This short vertical drama has it all.I've been surprised at a few of these Vertically filmed drama's. Some are absolutely top notch. With some of the best acting out there WITH outstanding stories and productions. Don't get me wrong, there are ALOT of duds too - poor quality, low acting, B drama's in this area too. But the fun I have found is finding the GEM's. It's like opening a present that you never knew you were going to get.
I refuse to watch any C-Drama, vertically filmed or otherwise on YouTube. That is the WORST platform, terrible sound quality, usually ripped off from other platforms making the quality of video sub par and usually incomplete or daubed over in odd places with weird sounds to get away with copy right infringement just ICK.
However, looking for the titles listed on MDL on paying platforms is next to impossible as the titles do not always match - even across platforms! And actors are NEVER listed and there are never any credits to find who the actors are. Therefore, when TRYING to rate any vertically filmed show ON MDL it is next to impossible. WHY there is NO congruency in Titles of the SAME show across all these apps is baffling, it sure makes things confusing!
The struggle to get the vertically filmed shows and the truly talented actors recognition and more accurate ratings is real.

Afterall it's still decent due Main Lead chemistry
I watched this because of excessive advertisement and it turns out to be good.Personally i am not fan of Liu Nian acting style and He Congrui successfully balanced her with their overflowing chemistry.
The plot is about modern girl transmigrate into FL and want to divorce her scumbag husband and ask decree from ML who happened to be emperor. The comedic part are quite fun and enjoyable and i didn't notice it was Cheng Cheng who played FL scumbag husband.
Recommended to watch.

I’m glad I gave this drama a second chance—because my first review? Completely useless. Turns out I was roasting an entirely different drama with the same title. Once I found the right one, it was like discovering the better twin hiding behind a bad first impression. And the real saving grace here is Liu Nian as Song Yao Zhi. She nails the balance of modern sass and period poise, delivering a heroine who makes you root for her even when the story drifts into morally gray waters.Her chemistry with He Cong Rui is another highlight. Their pairing is adorable, light, and refreshingly natural, which is rare in a short-format drama where relationships usually feel rushed. Watching Yao Zhi scheme her way out of her marriage to Zi Qian had me chuckling—she handles feudal patriarchy like a woman drafting divorce papers with a side of snark.
But then comes the murkier part: Yao Zhi’s dalliance with Cen Zan while still technically married. Sure, Zi Qian was parading his mistress around like a shiny new medal, and concubines in that era were as common as rice, but it still felt unsettling. The drama wants you to root for Yao Zhi’s choices, and for the most part you do—but the moral arithmetic doesn’t always add up cleanly.
And then there’s Zi Qian’s whiplash-inducing transformation. One moment he’s the cold, detached husband, the next he’s rewriting his vows with all the sincerity of a reformed romantic. In such a short series, that kind of 180 feels more like a script shortcut than believable growth. Still, between Liu Nian’s strong performance and the breezy pacing, it ends up being a light, enjoyable watch—even if not all the moves on the board make sense.

AWWW I JUST HAVE TO SAY THAT YOU SHOW UP THE NOVEL
After having a drama block, this web drama made me want to rewatch each one. FL is everything he's good at, adapting to the scene without any problems, and always has a response on his tongue. ML is a true heartthrob, seemingly mysterious and reserved, but then we see he's a total sweetheart with his love.The acting?
Too chaotic, with just enough spark to keep watching and not stop. It's fun and never ceases to surprise you. Let's also consider that it's a web drama, so everything had to be a little more effective.
The visuals?
She's beautiful, fitting the character perfectly. I think the costumes and sets are very well structured, and she always looked beautiful in her outfits. For a "simple" production, it met my expectations in terms of clothing. He always wore black, but what can you expect from the emperor?
The music?
I wasn't entirely convinced, but one in particular caught my attention completely.
The story?
I liked it. It's not a work of art, but it has everything that hooks you into a soap opera: drama, love, betrayals, and secrets. It's also very funny and has kind dialogue. It definitely provides a refreshing moment.
CONCLUSION:
If you have two free hours, use them wisely by watching this web novel. It's as good as it gets.

Laugh Out Loud and Fall In Love
This became one of my favorite costume drame and one of my favorite couple. I can't stop laughing. Liu Nian is a brilliant actress and her comedy is on point, as always.Second drama I watched with both actors. I hope they have more.
Story is the typical husband loves mistress more. But the flow of the story is nothing but because it was too funny.

La historia es super divertida y entretenida, en lo personal es uno de mis dramas favoritos en este formato, la fotografía también está bonita y te ayuda a disfrutar más de todo lo que ves, mi personaje fav es la sirvienta de yaozhi, es un amor T_T no merecía pasar por tantoLas pausas de comedia se sentían bien, no siento que hayan habido momentos donde alguno me haya descolocado
Las actuaciones también se sintieron buenas, aunque aun me hace ruido como creyeron la ingenuidad de yaozhi cuando se dio el pinchazo, pero supongo que lo veo así ya que se lo que ella pensaba
