Ai me Chen ,definitely at a tender age of 18 she is a very good actress for her fist main role she truely impressed me. This is a vey good answer to haters who wouldn't shut up about the age gap ,she delivered what she truely knows: acting ,kudos✌️✌️✌️✌️Of course Hou Minghou and Riley will always delivers miracles, they are seasoned actors, they never cease to impress me.Minghou will always be my favor actor, the fighting scene in ep 27 OMG i can't understand why he haven't got an Oscar in martial art 😅😅😅😅
The last fight between Wuyi and the aigle King is unbelievably beautiful and very powerful, it needs a chinese Oscar version itself and i just discover a new actor im about to be obsessed with: Merxat who play the aigle king ,i hope to see him more often playing the villain he is truely good at martial arts 🥰
I only gave it 9 because the last 3 episodes were disappointing, writers somehow messed up something 😔😔.

I came for Xiao Wuyi... Then Xie Jiayu happened.
What impressed me the most is how effortlessly the drama balances so many different genres. It has everything: political strategy, warfare, romance, friendship, family relationships, comedy, suspense, and emotional character growth. Normally, when a drama tries to do too much, something inevitably gets lost along the way. Here, however, everything feels surprisingly well-balanced. The political scenes never overshadow the romance, the comedy never feels out of place, and even during the quieter moments, the story never loses its momentum.The romance is one of my favorite aspects of the drama because it develops so naturally. Xiao Wuyi and Xie Jiayu don't fall in love overnight, nor is their relationship built on endless misunderstandings or unnecessary drama. Instead, they slowly become each other's source of comfort, support, and strength. Watching them grow together felt incredibly rewarding, and by the time they finally reached certain emotional milestones, I was completely rooting for them.
I also have to talk about Hou Minghao because... what can I even say at this point?
He's impeccable, as always.
His acting never feels exaggerated, yet he somehow manages to make every emotional scene incredibly powerful. Sometimes he doesn't even need dialogue. A single look, a slight change in expression, or just the way he carries himself is enough to tell you exactly what Xiao Wuyi is feeling. There are actors who perform a scene, and then there are actors who completely become their characters. Hou Minghao belongs to the second category.
As much as I loved Xiao Wuyi, the character who surprised me the most was Xie Jiayu.
Her character development is honestly one of the best parts of the entire drama. She starts off as a sheltered, innocent young girl who can barely distinguish romantic love from simple friendship. Watching her gradually mature into a strong, intelligent, and resilient woman without ever losing her kindness was such a satisfying journey.
very hardship she faces changes her little by little, allowing her to become stronger while still remaining true to herself. She never loses the warmth that defines her character, and that's exactly what makes her evolution feel so believable.
More importantly, she becomes Xiao Wuyi's light.
While he constantly carries the burden of responsibility, duty, and impossible choices, Xie Jiayu reminds him that there is still hope, warmth, and happiness worth protecting.
The supporting cast is another pleasant surprise. Everyone has a purpose within the story, and even characters who initially seem secondary end up contributing something meaningful to the overall narrative. Friendships feel genuine, family relationships have emotional weight, and the political conflicts rarely feel repetitive.
Overall, Key to the Phoenix Heart is one of those dramas that reminded me why I love historical C-dramas in the first place. It has romance that feels earned, political intrigue that stays interesting, characters who actually grow throughout the story, and enough emotional moments to keep you invested until the very end.

ONLY 28 Episodes For The Whole Drama? Like What? I Watched 3 Episodes, 2 Specials, And I Am HOOKED!
I Am Really Shocked That This Drama Only Has 28 Episodes, The 1st Episode Was Like WOW!!! The Stunts, And The Diffrent Affects Were Amazing. I Was Seriously Trying To Figure Out If The Fire Coming From Xiao WuYi Sword Was Real, Fake, Or Just Put In To The Screen After Everthing Was Filmed, Or CGI. All I Have To Say Is, It Looks So Real, I Kept Telling My Husband I Hope Hou MingHao Didn't Get Burn Or Hurt From The Sparks, And Flames. That Fight Scene In The Very 1st Episode Was Crazy For The 1st Episode, But I Guess... Since There Is Only 28 Episodes. I've Watched 3 Episodes, And 2 Specials And All Were Action Packed. Fight Scenes Are Insanely Crazy, And Really Good.O.k. 1st I Must Say How Much I Love Hou MingHao, And Riley Wang... They Both Are Such Tallented, And Great Actors. Not To Mention Both Are Gorgeous, Cute, And Handsome All At The Same Time. (I Say That About All My Favorite's, Which Is A Lot, To Many To Count. 🤪) This Is The 2nd Drama That Both Have Acted Together In, So It Is Really Nice To See Both Acting In Another Drama Together. I Hope I Will See Them Act Together In Many More.
There Is A Love Triangle Going On Which Is Pretty Stange, And Confusing. Riley's Charater Is In Love With The Female Leads Charater, And She Is In Love With Him. Xiao WuYi Asked The Queen To Marry Her Which Is Strange, Because It Looks Like Riley Charater, And Xiao WuYi Are Very Good Friends, Even Best Friends. Strange Enough Though I Think Xiao WuYi Is In Love With Her, Or He At Least Really Likes Her.
Oh, And What's Even More Stange, And Confusing Is On The The Female Leads, And Xiao WuYi's Wedding Day, They Didn't Even Get Married, There Was No Ceremony. So How Are They Even Considered Married. There Was No Bowing To The Heavens, Bow To Your Parents, And Bow To Eachother. None Of That, So... How Are They Married???
On The Other Hand, This Is A Totally Diffrent Side Of Hou MingHao That I Am Not Use To, He Is Mean, Ruthless, And A Killing Machine... But There Is A Reason Why He Is This Way, And That Is Because At The Age Of 14 He Was Sent To War, And Fight In The War At Such A Very Young Age. He Didn't Have A Very Good Life Even Being A Prince, And He Ended Up Losing Thousands, And Thousands Of Soldiers, Because Of The War. So Because Of This War Even His 2 Right Hand Tursted Woman, And Man Are Ruthless, And Killing Machines. At Least In The Beginning They Were, And Eventually They Mellowed Out A Bit, And They Killed Somewhat Less, But Were Just 3 Episodes In, So Lets See What Happens In The Last 25 Episodes!!!
None The Less Thought I Love Hou MingHao's Charater Xiao WuYi, Ruthless, Mean, A Killing Machine Or Not, He Is Such A Strong, And Almost Invisible Character. He Has His Moments Though Where He Is Sweet, Funny, Caring And Kind, And That Is What Reminds Me Of Why I Love Hou MingHao So Much... He's Great At Playing Both Sweet Or Evil, No Matter What!!! He Is Just So Loveable Either Way!!!
Be Careful Who You Trust, And Who You Don't Trust. You Might Think You Can Trust That Person, Especially, Because You Think They Love You Or There Family, But No. There's Alot Of Twist, And Turns. Someone May Seem One Way, But In Real Life They Are The Total Opposite Of Who You Think They Are, And Are Fake! They Could Be Someone You Think You Can Trust, And That Someone Is Being Fake. I Had A Really Bad Felling That This Someone Was Bad, Which I Was Right About, But It Was Hard To Believe, Because Of Who They Are, And What They Are To Another Person. Which Is Family!!!

She Doesn't Look Uncomfortable In The Least. Actually Hou MingHao Was The One That Looked To Be Embarrassed, But So Adorable. I Never Once Saw Her Uncomfortable.
YES, SHE MAY HAVE BEEN 17, BUT IF YOU ARE GOOD AT WHAT YOU DO JUST LIKE BOTH HER, AND HOU MINGHAO DID, THEN THE TURN OUT WILL BE ONE OF THE GREATEST DRAMA LIKE THIS ONE!!! ONLY GOING BY THE 1ST FOUR EPISODE, AND THE SPECIALS I WATCHED... And The Few Behind The Scenes!!!

Don't Let the Age Gap Scare You—This is a 2026 Masterpiece!
I came to watch this with an open mind, and it turned out to be one of the best dramas released in 2026! A lot of people are skipping this due to the age gap talk, but when you watch the episodes, you won't notice it at all. The romantic chemistry between the leads is so beautiful and pure. Hou Minghao is brilliant—his action scenes are flawless, and his expressive eyes tell a whole story on their own. Ai Mi proves once again how incredibly talented she is. Hands Down One of the Best Dramas of 2026!
I originally came to watch this drama out of curiosity, and now I am completely obsessed! Key to the Phoenix Heart is easily one of the absolute best dramas of 2026. I know many people were hesitant to start watching because of the real-life age gap between the leads, but trust me, once you actually start the show, that age gap completely disappears. Their on-screen chemistry is incredibly beautiful, sweet, and natural.Hou Minghao is absolutely phenomenal here. His acting is flawless, his action sequences are top-tier, and his eye language (eyekiss) is out of this world—he expresses so much deep emotion just with his eyes! Matching his brilliance is the highly talented Ai Mi, who delivers a spectacular performance. Overall, this is a masterfully made drama that you should not miss!

A 2026 Masterpiece Defined by Hou Minghao’s Magical Eye Language!
I came to watch this drama out of curiosity, and it easily became one of the absolute best dramas of 2026! While some people are hesitating to watch it because of the real-life age gap, you honestly don't feel it at all while watching. Their chemistry on screen is incredibly beautiful, pure, and deeply romantic.The biggest highlight of this show is undoubtedly Hou Minghao. He is absolutely phenomenal, but what completely steals the show is his incredible eye language. His eyes are so expressive that he doesn't even need words to convey love, pain, or intensity. Every single "eyekiss" and gaze he gives is out of this world! It makes the romance feel so much more passionate and alive. Combined with his flawless acting and top-tier action scenes, he is a true masterclass here. The talented Ai Mi also holds her own beautifully next to him. Could have been done better
Episodes 1-6I’m finding everything pretty easy to follow. A few times watching the first 6 episodes I had to pause and go back just a little to reread what I heard so that way I could remember who the different people are and what their positions are and it’s all been pretty easy to follow so far.
Good amount of comedy, the FL show shows her good nature, virtuous, and mischievous personality we get to know her more and we get to know the ML lead more. He’s very serious and focused on his own personal goals. Doesn’t seem too interested in things outside of that but because of Jia Yu he learns more about her, but she doesn’t remember meeting him so he has a bit of an advantage here.
I am not loving this show. I am watching it but it is not as great as it could have been.
Episodes 7-18
I am a huge fan of HMH. But as the episodes go on, I am struggling with the age of the FL. 17/28/29 is just gross to me as an adult. Especially after the inappropriate comments made by the director. They really should have cast an adult FL. I not only don’t see romantic chemistry between them onscreen, but I don’t want to. HMH was 28 and Riley Wang was 29 at filming. Both are too old for a teenager.
I am on episode 18 and it is starting to head further along with the romance between them. She looks like a little kid next to a grown man. She also acts like a little kid. They could be siblings but not lovers. He seems like a protective brother. He knows how to act and I have seen him have chemistry with practically all the FL’s he has acted with. (and I have seen all of his shows but a few I can’t access in the US.) But I don’t see that here. Honestly I am glad atp because I think it’s better for him to not feel comfortable acting romantically with a teenager.
When I watch a show I judge their acting based on several things. But what really makes me think they are acting well is if I really think they are that person they are playing. Like they themselves look like they believe they are that person. some ppl do this so well. I believe Riley Wang does this really well in this show. along with his sister. But their plots are not believable.
For example(Spoilers by episode 18) The simple life goals guy, Prince Qi, who is madly in love with FL decides on a whim to not run away with his beloved that night? Nope. While also knowing he was trapping his sister there with him? He gains no real power and they are both beaten and tormented at times in the palace. Then Li Le Jun [Li Mao's younger sister] would not have had to switch the poisoned arrow they could have gotten someone to do that. Then Prince Qi is mad that Xiao Wu Yi is falling in love with her. Dude you abandoned her. Either leave the palace and run away with her or get over it. You made that decision now own it.
Then we are supposed to believe that we Le Jun who was taken in by Princess Mom who her nursed back to good health took care of her for many years needs to die at her hands to protect her brother from someone she does not know to be a real threat to Mao. Prince Wenji is not a threat to Mao for several reasons. Mao doesn’t even want to be in the castle so he could get to leave if Wenji did come back. She doesnt even know if he exists.
Then Mao not being mad at his sister for killing his beloveds mother!?! What was that? It makes him seem really stupid. That’s his Grand Tutors wife too. So I am not buying that she would do what she did. I also think they could have stopped the cart from going off the cliff or at least tried harder. Then the way it fell off the cliff Le Jun is not surving that fall.
I am not feeling Ai mi’s acting either. There is something missing for me. I liked her at first but then I started to change my mind as it went on. The character too young, impulsive and at times selfish. Like her lifelong maid died in front of her and the affect it had on her was not very long lasting. Your dad is a cold blooded killer. The maid did not have to die then either. How is that teaching your kid to grow up? Sicko.
I also didn’t find it easy to follow the problem with the past and the An story line. The show does some flashbacks to show us things but then some things are missing and feel skipped over that should have flashbacks.
Also compared to Love in the Clouds, for example, the lighting and cinematography are not as good. It is missing something. I think it often looks and feels rushed.
Hou Ming Hao if you happen to read this please so down. You are doing so much and it worries your fans. You don’t need to do so many shows back to back, constant ads, on top of your music and concerts. You are human and you should take it a bit easier. You deserve time to yourself. You deserve a life outside of your career. play basketball more wtih friends, deink well eat well and sleep well. You are so talented. But you can’t keep pushing yourself so hard or it will affect you badly in the long run. I will keep supporting you. I just hope you take better care of yourself.

Must watch!!!! HMH’s Best
I think this is Hou Ming Hao’s best drama to date and his co star Ai Mi held her own and shined in her first leading role.The drama was written well, acted well and even directed well. I couldn’t find any fault with it at all. The story pacing was fast and there was no dragging anything on. I was worried it was going to lose steam half way through or they were going to fumble the ending but they didn’t. It was fantastic from start to finish. It’s rare to have all the elements come together so perfectly.
HMH and Ai Mi were perfect and there wasn’t anything inappropriate at all. I loved them both in their roles and the other actors were also great. There wasn’t one weak link in the entire production. Highly recommend！

A soothing & frankly beautiful love story!
As a big Ai Mi fan, this drama was highly anticipated for me, and boy, it DID NOT disappoint!The story is about the witty & genius (albeit naive) inventor of a girl, who meets the “evil villain” of a general. It just so happened that she found herself in the position of having to marry said general, and all the schemes were engineered by no less than… her own father.
This series was truly brilliant. From the visuals to the music to the acting, it was all very moving and amazing. There was many a plot twists, and everytime you think you know where it’s headed, you don’t! My absolute favourite thing about this show was the love story (can’t blame me, I am a romance fiend) and how both the main characters grew with their love.
Ai Mi (AM) plays Xie Jiayu, the young, smart girl who thrives from independence. She was initially mutually in love with our second ML, Li Mao. However, her and our ML Xiao Wuyi bonded as unlikely friends, which sneaked its way into a love where they would willingly die for each other. I adored AM’s acting in this. Even though she was only 17 when this was filmed, she carried this first role as a FL effortlessly. Her acting is amazing for her age, and the range of emotions she can display is just *chefs kiss*. Watching XJY mature into this capable woman was a joy.
Hou Minghao (HMH) plays Xiao Wuyi, villain to everyone but those closest to him. He is smart, calculating, yet giving (perhaps too giving), big-hearted and truly- just one big beautiful badass softie. XWY has had a burden he never asked for on his shoulders since he was young, and never thought about much else apart from politics and serving his country. Meeting Jiayu was wildly out of his plans or expectations, and I don’t think he could ever truly believe his luck for getting a wife that not only demands that he stays alive, but will walk beside him no matter what path he walks on. HMH is beyond incredible in this role, the skill, the acting, the fight scenes - and most of all I love the look on his face when he’s in love - like a puppy you just can’t help but love!
All the side characters were great, even the truly villainous ones. Every single person had depth and wasn’t just purely good or bad. You can easily go from hating someone one minute to feeling sorry for them the next. Like Li Mao’s younger sister for example. She did something really terrible, but the way her story ended was nothing short of sad.
The only slightly negative I could say for this show is that the pacing is sometimes a little fast. It seems that a lot happens in a short space of time, and some things are explained veeeery quickly. But, everything makes sense, and the relationship developments are very natural. You can understand why each character makes the choices they make. This drama also had a very fresh take on the whole revenge-arc, which made it very refreshing to watch.
As with many c-dramas, the OST is beautiful, obviously including the TWO that Neo (HMH) sing! Also the ending was so nicely done. It wasn’t just a quick hug-reunion-show finished. There was a full circle episode and a very loud, heartfelt display of love. I liked that they respected that AM was not yet an adult and therefore no kissing scenes, but honestly, you didn’t feel their love for each other any less.
All in all, a show well worth watching, and I really hope to see this pairing again in the future!

From its captivating first episode to its apotheosis of a finale, this show will keep you glued to your seat. It’s one of those series you have to rewatch because you discover details you missed the first time, or realize how a specific action explains a later outcome. It’s so well-constructed that I didn't even see the ending coming; it was a complete surprise!It's true that for a great script to succeed, you need talented actors who truly understand their characters—and this is another of the series' major strengths. Xiao Wuji wouldn't be the same if Hou Minghao hadn't brought him to life. This incredibly talented Chinese actor has wonderful expressiveness and a gaze that doesn't need words to convey his thoughts. I've seen his other works, and with this role, he has taken another massive leap forward in his career.Aimee is also perfect as Xie Jiayu. I read that the age difference between the actors (Aimee was a minor during filming) caused some controversy, but for me, it’s quite the opposite: it makes their characters even more believable. Furthermore, the romance between Wuji and Jiayu is built on pure admiration and respect. With just a look or a simple touch, the actors perfectly convey their characters' deep love. I find this type of romantic plot highly original nowadays, where it seems like every series follows the exact same formula.The veteran director does a magnificent job. I love the overall aesthetic of the series; it’s a beautiful celebration of Eastern aesthetics.
And of course, I can’t forget the soundtrack—it’s absolutely gorgeous!
