Duan Hong and Wei Qing head to the palace. Tian Fen arrives with Empress Wang on their tail to punish them. Liu Che defends them and rebukes Tian Fen instead. Zifu visits Duan Hong after not seeing each other for two years, but Duan Hong is determined to leave again. Liu Che explains that Dou Ying had begged to die with Guan Fu to protect Liu Che’s reputation and lull Tian Fen to a false sense of security to further investigate the case. Duan Hong agrees to stay for the investigation. Lanlin Palace hosts a banquet in honour of a new start for Duan Hong. Zifu gifts him a musical instrument and plays a duet with him.
