Chu Fu influences Empress Wang to believe that Zifu has brought on the imperial family’s misfortunes and Cao Shi’s illness. She plans to take Zifu and her three daughters away to avoid further mishaps. Liu Che is in a dilemma, but doesn’t want to be involved out of concern for state affairs. Out of consideration to Liu Che, Zifu tells Duan Hong she will not resist any longer. After the sickly Cao Shi dies, Yuan Shu spreads rumours of an affair between Princess Pingyang and Wei Qing. Empress Wang rebukes Zifu for her seductive wiles and her brother’s bad influence on Princess Pingyang’s reputation. Zifu keeps her promise and accepts the scolding.
