Knowing that the death penalty is inevitable, Chen Jiao requests to see Zifu. She begs Zifu to save Princess Guantao, and in turn Zifu appeals to Liu Che. She reminds him of Empress Dou’s final wish, and he finally concedes. Chen Jiao would be exiled from the palace and be placed under house arrest for the remainder of her life. The main culprit Chu Fu is executed by Duan Hong, and a heartbroken Yuan Shu vows that there will be no peace in the palace for Zifu. As the back palace is anxious due to the persecution of witch doctors, Zifu persuades Liu Che to stop the executions. He relents, with the hope that she will let Wei Qing lead the army to battle.
