The Story Needed Some Work
I'm not going to lie, this was a tough watch for me. I'm usually someone who enjoys most series, but the series' setup created an immediate disconnect for me, which tainted my view of most of the show.I know they wrote the setup the way they did to force the couples into situations where their relationships could grow. Unfortunately, the way they did it was illogical. I won't say what it was here for spoiler reasons, but it's a very early plot point that will leave you scratching your head because it makes no sense. What is sad is that there was a straightforward way to achieve what the writers were going for, without creating that disconnect between the story and the viewers.
Also, the whole series reads weirdly like an advertisement, which made it feel like the story was secondary to the ads, when it should be the other way around.
With all that said, it wasn't all bad. Tian's performance in the series was as great as it could be with the script she was given. She especially got her moment to shine in episode four (which, in my opinion, was the best episode of the series), where her performance almost made me forget the problems I had with the writing throughout the rest of the show.
I'm thankful that the series ended better than it started. I'm curious if Viberberry Studio will still be making Mission: Love or Lies 2. If they do, I hope they build a more believable story and give the actors an opportunity to really shine.
