Yoshiki and Hikaru have spent their childhood inseparable, the only two kids in their quiet rural village. Their bond is deep, but everything changes one summer when Yoshiki realizes his best friend isn’t the same person anymore. Though Hikaru looks and acts familiar, something fundamental has shifted, leaving Yoshiki with an unsettling certainty that the real Hikaru is gone. When Yoshiki confronts him, the truth comes out in a terrifying way—Hikaru’s body twists into something inhuman, a monstrous form that both threatens his life and confesses an eerie, possessive love. Torn between grief for the friend he lost and confusion over this strange being that has taken his place, Yoshiki can’t bring himself to walk away. Meanwhile, the village begins experiencing bizarre and sinister events, hinting at a darkness tied to whatever Hikaru has become. As the line between past and present blurs, Yoshiki must decide whether to cling to what remains or face the unsettling reality before him. Editar Tradução

Enjoyable to watch
There’s nothing particularly new about the story. This type of narrative has been told many times before. The themes of love, friendship, loss, and loneliness are also quite familiar. However, the strengths of this anime lie in its execution. The setting, editing, voice acting, and overall production are solid, making it an enjoyable watch. What concerns me, though, is the potential queerbaiting in this anime. The author has stated that the manga is not intended to be queer, yet the interactions and language exchanged between the two boys often suggest a relationship that feels deeper than mere friendship. From a marketing perspective, choosing to make Hikaru a boy instead of a girl was a smart move, as the BL/queer fanbase is large and loyal. So, while the author denies any romantic connection between the boys, it still seems like the story intentionally plays into queer subtext to attract a specific audience.
