One of example how to create plain story into wonderful gem.
I love Guo Yuxin and this is Liu Haoqun first vertical drama without Jiang Shiqi as his partner. I lowered my expectation since i always Liu Haoqun on comedy but surprisingly i liked their chemistry better than few of Guo Yuxin popular pairing. As expected from queen of chemistry. They feel like old married couple and their 90's are quite fashionable and not look tacky. The plot is somewhat generic and cliche. FL aka Yang Chun Rong got forced to marry Mafia King but ML aka Lu Bing He
shows as his knight and somewhat FL accept ML marriage proposal and the sweet journey of love begin.
Liu Haoqun successfully delivers as Lu Bing He who looks cool but warm inside. The micro expression is on point and few of usual short drama actor could do that. Guo Yuxin are quite keen on choosing script she can make plain script into great story and its rare for actress from short drama to do that (the one is Han Yutong).
The minor flaw on the plot is about ML father who passed away and his friend going to jail for small amount of money. They could do it better with that plot.
Overall still recommend to watch for everyone.

Solid mini drama
I feel like Chinese mini dramas should have a different scale for critique from full length dramas. So many of them are absolutely terrible, but I still watch with lowered expectations, and usually because I just want to have something on in the background while I'm multitasking. This was a major exception. The ML and FL are amazing actors and the story was so raw and heartfelt. It was really nice to have a storyline about "normal" people just trying to do their best and overcome poverty, loss, etc. None of that tropey "bossy CEO" nonsense. It was set in the 90s, so that's also why the story had a sense of authenticity to ground it. All that being said, it's still a drama so I'm not trying to claim it's a bio-pic or anything, I'm just saying it was refreshing for the mini format. The ML is so offbeat and endearing (by the end I found him very attractive) and the FL is beautiful and talented; a really great pairing! Was this review helpful to you?

Superb acting & chemistry between the leads + heartfelt drama
It was early January 2026 and I missed watching Guo Yu Xin dramas. I remember this drama in my watchlist so I watched and OMG loved it! It was warm & heartfelt. What I liked:
1. Acting - Guo Yu Xin and Liu Hao Qun were spectacular. They matched each other's acting prowess and intensity. Palpable chemistry between the two.
2. Romance - They took their time and once they kissed, damn they were on fire. I loved that they were affectionate with each other. I could "see" love for each other in their eyes. They had each other's back.
3. FL characterisation - She was victim of abuse & manipulation and later sought protection from ML. She grew strong and confident as she lived with ML and his family. Compassionate & kind.
4. ML characterisation - He seemed sketchy at first with his gang members but he was very kind towards FL, his brother and his best friend. I liked his protectiveness.
5. Supporting characters - I loved ML's younger siblings, best friend and his kid.
6. Kindness - Acts of kindness and compassion were demonstrated in a few scenes. Those were heartfelt.
7. Styling - I loved the outfits worn by FL & ML. The red cardigan /jacket was pretty.
What I liked:
1. Antagonists - I didn't like FL's relatives for their bad treatment towards FL. I also didn't like ML's stepmother at first but she redeemed herself.
