It's a comedy, right?

Gu jin nan qiu, what can be said? Don't! Unless you have 3 min to spare and need a good laugh at the pure absurdity of every episode. If not, don't. This is the worst. Waste of effort on both parties. The entire production and the viewer. I will admit I stuck around when I switched from viewing it as a drama and turned it into a comedy. Only then it became bearable. Special mention of the volatile cousin and the security guard. One pranced around like a vindictive prima donna and the other a bumbling clown. Yes, heavy on the melodrama.

I'm leaning towards the idea that the director gave them free reign to do whatever they wanted. Nothing and I do mean nothing was cohesive, consistent or rewarding in any way. Had they got a better script, toned down the cousin's erratic melodrama, kept the meter at the other three actors and built from there, it might have been passable. Even though the budget was limited. This was the lowest of the low.

Visuals were there. OK, one good thing. Seriously, do better. Yes, there is an audience for China bl. There will never be an audience for chaotic absurdity aka crap. The open ending created a bit of interest within the chaos but still lost.

Biggest mess i have seen

Oh my gosh, this was just so terible! The story was a mess, the edditting a mess, the acting was very bad too... How they came to the decision to produce this mess i really don't know. Were they drunk at that time?

The only good thing were the visuals and the music was ok.

Please don't waste your time watching this, because you will reret it...

Incomplete series at the end feels mehhh

So let's start from acting, it seems to be forced and over dramatic. The story was nice but seems to be not so well portrayed. Music was ok too. But the rape scene doesn't digest with me, and even falling in love later for him was also something not so realistic. But i believed that obviously there are some ppl like this out there in these world but we shouldn't normalised it. The only character i felt bad for is Huaziou or whatever the name was. He was a helpless victim is these series. Also Gu leng is pretty looking like really like out of cast members he is the only one beautiful there. Anyways a nice one time watch only. Also one more thing is that everything in these series seems so FAST.

not great but surprisingly entertaining

tried watching this a while back (when it started airing) & my conclusion then not even 2 mins in, was that the distant half-brother needs his head bashed in - there's toxic & then there is toxic - concluded then that this not for me & dropped it, LOL.
so why did i decide today to give this a 2nd chance? bored? curious?!? either way i did give this a 2nd chance & wont lie - had to ignore the verbal & physical abuse, otherwise wouldn't have lasted the 1st ep (regardless of how short this is).

watching, in-spite of it kinda being all over the place, the overly dramatic acting & the disjointed plot - the bones were good, interesting even & if the plot had be simplified, maybe this would've turned out better then it did. but it is what it is & 1hr didn't drag on, cause there was always something going on - so wasn't bored, maybe bewildered at times dumbfounded at others & even annoyed - but entertained all the same.
the bodyguard was ridiculous & thankfully added some much needed levity to this overly dramatic plot - that some how trivialized pretty heavy subjects like sexual, physical & mental abuse... also Gu Huai Zhou's cousin was a freakin sociopath & he got to walk away after everything he did? freakin preposterous, but it just shows that when u come from money, u can get away with murder & the fact his family (specifically Gu Huai Zhou) never did anything to punish him , no matter what he did - whatever he gets up to in the future, Gu Huai Zhou will deserve.

so even though this wasn't good it was entertaining if u leave logic & common sense at the door. it was fun & as it was an open ended maybe there will be a 2nd season - i will for sure watch it just to see if the "train" will again go off the trails.

So Much Happened… And Somehow Nothing Made Sense

Wow… there’s honestly a lot to unpack here, and I don’t even know where to start. I guess I’ll begin by saying I do applaud them for trying their best with the budget and resources they had. Looking at it from that perspective, the production isn’t terrible. But at the same time, there are so many issues that make this series really hard to watch and, at times, just straight-up unpleasant.

Plot-wise, it’s not horrible, but it’s very typical, especially for Chinese BL. You’ve got the whole stepbrother/half-brother dynamic, which is something they tend to do a lot. It always feels like they’re trying to sit right on that line between taboo and “technically okay.” On top of that, you get all the usual elements: heavy toxicity between characters, tons of trauma, and the whole rich family/mafia/gang situation mixed with drugs, gambling, and debt. None of that surprised me.

What did disappoint me is how poorly everything was executed. I get that it’s low budget and the actors are still pretty new, but between the script and the overall direction, it just doesn’t come together in a satisfying way.

Every single character has trauma...like, everyone. The cousin is probably the worst of them all, genuinely the most abusive character. The other male lead is also toxic, but he barely gets enough screen time for us to even fully understand him. Honestly, I’m still confused about who the actual main couple is supposed to be. The half-brother kind of just… exists? He goes along with everything like it’s normal, even in situations that are clearly not okay, like kidnapping and assault. It just feels like a lot of emotions weren’t expressed properly, or weren’t developed enough to feel real. Everything ends up feeling exaggerated and unrealistic.

The production itself is… okay for what it is. You can tell the budget is low, but it’s not the worst I’ve seen. With better resources, this could’ve been so much better. The music was actually one of the stronger points, it stood out more than I expected.

I really wish we got more of the second couple, the half-brothers. It honestly felt like they were supposed to be the main focus, but somewhere along the way, the story shifted toward the cousin and the kidnapped guy instead.
And the story as a whole? It’s a mess. It feels like a puzzle with missing pieces. There’s just so much going on, especially toward the end, and a lot of it is left unexplained.

Even the ending confused me. Like… isn’t Su Bei the kidnapped guy? And if so, isn’t he… gone? Wouldn’t the others recognize him? And why did it feel like no one really cared about what happened to him? He literally ends his life, and it’s just brushed off like nothing, his eyes get donated, and then everyone just moves on. That part really didn’t sit right with me.

I’ve seen people say there might be a season 2, and honestly, I kind of need that at this point because I’m so lost and I want answers. But if this is really how it ends, then I don’t think it’s worth getting into.

Overall, it’s a very low-quality series that lacks a lot of what makes a show actually enjoyable to watch. At the same time, I can appreciate the effort, they clearly tried, and in a way, that’s kind of admirable. But from a viewer’s perspective, the flaws are hard to ignore.

Also… I have to say, the bodyguard was lowkey the main character. The loyalty? Unmatched. That man carried.

Final rating: 6.5/10

You know what? I ate this thing up

I’ve been putting this off but here it goes: I liked it. I really liked it. I’m comically putting 10 stars for everything, because the show was likewise comically ridiculous. Matching energy.

With bigger budget, more actors, solid post-production, and longer script, this would have eaten the same way revenged love ate. It didn’t, but I saw the potential, and loved every cringy moment. It has all the cliches, all the phrases I like.

I literally cannot wait for the second season. I hope it comes out soon. One of the actors served a five-course meal and I hope I’ll see him in other works in the future. (You’ll have to give the drama a chance to know which one I mean.)

I didn't really trust the bad score and I should have trust it.

Main "couple" is incest.
Secondary "couple" is assault with a stocklhom syndrom (only cute moment were when he wasn't himself so...)

Nothing to save. Hope they don't make a season 2.
Short and yet I feel like I waste my time

Correct [6.5/10]

The series is decent but lacks polish. There's a foundation there, certainly, but it's not explored enough, especially in terms of the story and the music. It could be greatly improved!
Regarding the story, it's somewhat subjective; the main couple are two brothers, and the secondary character is someone with mental health issues. Ultimately, it comes down to the director's skill and the audience's appreciation of the genre. The story isn't absurd, but it lacks originality (even if it is based on familiar tropes).

Chinese bl

I have watched seven episodes so far and it is not as awful as some have reviewed. I am enjoying it and yes production could be better but these young men are starting their careers and learning their craft so I am all for giving them a go and their acting is fine. After 4 episodes you have to pay to see it but that’s fine as the series is quite interesting! Chinese bl are being broadcast internationally now thanks to filming in other countries so let’s support all bl good and average. Episodes could be longer but maybe next time they will produce a longer bl.

abuse

Overall: abusive characters were abusive. 18 episodes about 5 minutes each. Aired on 欧芝居 YouTube channel https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLNYcOUpIAiIkfPSoVrxOT8YDD3V2rjs-m&si=MymiwAhc6uAAmY_X

Content Warning: multiple slaps, held against will, sexual assault, past child abuse, coercion, repeated rape, drugging, suicide shown, past deaths/murder, blood

What I Liked
- episodes 10, 11 and 12 up to 3 minutes
- I did chuckle when the bodyguard interrupted 2 guys kissing and the 1 guy punched the bodyguard

Room For Improvement
- the side couple was terrible, repeated abuse then a ray of niceness and even after the guy is awful the other guy suddenly loves him, super sad that he killed himself
- a main character is 17 years old and the other character destroyed something he loved on purpose, slapped the 17 year old and treated him like crap for a lot of the series
- are they biological brothers? step brothers? (hoping it's step brothers, update, I was never clear what they were)
- character shows up in episode 17 to do an exposition dump
