Mentor (2026)

This story begins with a fire incident that occurred one summer fifteen years ago. Mashiko Ryunosuke and Uetani Takumi, two boys who carelessly played with fire, accidentally burned down a neighboring apartment complex. As the flames raged, they witnessed a man named Nomoto emerge from the building carrying the charred body of his wife. Years later, Ryunosuke grows up and tries to seal away his crime, moving forward with his life as a candidate for Japan’s Olympic archery team. Takumi, on the other hand, remains trapped in the memory of their wrongdoing and spends his days consumed by gloom. Then one day, the burned and scarred Nomoto reappears before the two men. But instead of speaking words of resentment, he quietly tells them, “You have already atoned enough.” His unsettling kindness gradually leads Nomoto to become something of a mentor, an adviser and guide, to both Ryunosuke and Takumi.
