Kindaichi Kosuke visits Okayama and stays at the hot spring inn “Kame no Yu” in Onikubi Village. The village was the site of a murder case that occurred 23 years earlier. Around that time, a popular singer who was born in the village returns home, and the entire village is swept up in a celebratory mood. However, soon after, young women who had been childhood friends began to be murdered one after another. The bodies are adorned with eerie decorations, each arranged to mirror the lyrics of an old traditional temari ball song passed down in the village. As past grudges, hidden blood ties, and desires for revenge intertwine, Kindaichi closes in on the truth behind the killings.
