Yoshii Yuta, Fujimaki Hajime, and Kikuhara Kisuke are middle-aged men, with different personalities and tastes, who were friends in middle school. Back in 1988, they were in a movie club and absorbed in making kung-fu movies. Now, at the age of 51, they feel like their lives are stuck in a dead end. One day, news breaks about human bones discovered at a construction site in Danbe. Kisuke feels uncomfortable when he hears the news, because Danbe is the town where he spent his middle school days with Yuta and Hajime. He decides to contact the two, and they meet again for the first time in 37 years. As they reminisce about old times, they realize their memories of their beloved advisor have become hazy. Furthermore, a piece of paper is found with a group photo of the movie club. The paper has the word "missing" written on it. The three men begin to look into the mysterious disappearance of their advisor. (Source: AsianWiki) Edit Translation

Fantasized memories and distorted realities
The story deals with the idea of fantasized memories and distorted realities. Three men in their 50s meet after 40 years having lost touch after their middle school days to search for the man who killed their favorite teacher. The show takes up the concept of how memory is deconstructed and reconstructed, the authenticity of reconstructed memories and more importantly who reconstructs it.I loves the nostalgic vibes 😎
The story talks about bullying, abusive teachers, classism, following dreams and choosing to not follow them, the idea of success, justice and so much more. I also think this is a love letter to art because our characters are Otakus and their love for art is transferred through the screen.
Despite all of these serious topics, it never feels preachy. It's got it's heart in the right place.
The mystery was really interesting till the ending. I absolutely LOVED how everything was tied together by the end. Oh also,I'm in love Matilda.
