Brilliant Social Commentary That Stumbles at the Finish Line

I’ve always had a soft spot for Nanno—there’s something uniquely satisfying about watching a cosmic entity dismantle human ego. "The Reset" feels like a double-edged sword, though. On one hand, the acting is powerhouse-tier, but the narrative steam definitely starts to peter out toward the finish line. In the series, Nanno seemed like an angel doll to me (soft and kindhearted), compared with the original, who is a creepy and unpredictable mystery.

The season started with incredible momentum, tackling visceral, "ripped from the headlines" social issues before stumbling in its final act.

Episode 1 (8.5/10): A searing look at bullying. It felt timely, uncomfortable, and exactly what I want from this show.

Episode 2 (8.0/10): Again, very relevant to current social dynamics, though the pacing felt a bit frantic—I wish it had room to breathe.

Episode 3 (10/10): The absolute masterpiece of the season. The exploration of social media vitriol and the unfair destruction of innocent influencers was chilling. It’s the gold standard for what Girl From Nowhere can achieve.

Episode 4 (6.5/10): A noticeable dip. The concept was there, but the execution lacked that signature Nanno "bite."

Episode 5 (5.0/10): This is where I started to lose interest; the narrative felt a bit stagnant.

Finale (5.0/10): For a season titled "The Reset," I expected a bang. Instead, the election plot felt uninspired and, frankly, a bit boring due to a certain love interest. It lacked the high stakes needed for a finale.

Gore, Revenge and Highschool Drama x100

It is not really my usual type of show but I watched the earlier seasonsand liked them well enough, so was intrigued to see what this season would bring.

Before watching the show I would recommend looking up trigger warnings. There is alot of scenes and concepts in the show that, I think most people, would call disturbing. It´s alot of blood and gore but also situations that can potentially be triggering, especially if you identify as a woman. It is all fitting to the plot of the show and it does not feel like it´s there just for shock value, but it can be pretty disturbing.

The plot is basically contained to seperate stories, episode to episode, with an overarching theme. Each episode plot focused on some kind of revenge. It can be a little confusing at times but is overall pretty intresting and the revenge part is usually satisfying.

None of the characters are not really likeable, by nature of the show. I liked Nanno as well as her helper/admirer. Nanno always felt like she was in controll and knew exactly what the deal was, which can sometimes lead to a character to feel smug and not likeable, but Nanno just felt confident and secure.

Overall this show is not one of the best shows I´ve ever seen but if the triggers don´t bother you and you got some time to spare I don´t think watching this show would be wasted time.

its an interesting addition however...

It's an interesting addition, but I find the plot quite basic. The concept was engaging, but the acting felt shallow, and there wasn't enough emotional depth in the story. Watch it only after you've seen the previous Nanno shows, as this might discourage you from watching the other seasons. While it's not bad, I feel Becky is more suited to the GL genre. I know she's been trying to diversify, and for a first attempt in a foreign genre, she did pretty well—so please don't criticize her too harshly. She's trying her best and seems very sweet. However, overall, the show lacks the emotional depth that I appreciated in previous seasons.

Too Many Questions and Too Little Substance

Becky did a great job with her role, but this part of "Girl From Nowhere" felt weak to me. The stories seem to touch on important topics, but they lack depth and proper development. Very often, after an episode ends, it feels like the writers themselves didn’t fully understand what they were trying to say. In the earlier seasons with Nanno, everything worked much better: she felt like something supernatural, a mysterious being who came to a new school, observed people, and exposed their flaws. She didn’t care about anyone’s feelings — she simply pushed people toward certain actions and watched what would happen. The punishments always felt logical there. Here, though, Nanno feels more like an immortal psychopath without that same mystery and atmosphere.

The first episode raised a lot of questions. I understand that bullying is a real problem, but everything felt way too exaggerated. Where are Sky’s parents? Aren’t they concerned that their child constantly comes home beaten up, covered in bruises and blood? It’s also unclear why Nanno suddenly decided to help him and why he kept appearing afterward. At first, I thought they were trying to turn him into something like a new Yuri from season two. That would have at least explained why he knew about Nanno's existence and was trying to summon her.

The second episode was more interesting because it brought up a genuinely important issue. But the scene where Nanno shows her underwear felt extremely weird.

I liked the idea behind the third episode. It showed really well how jealousy and the desire for fame can drive a person insane and destroy them from the inside.

The fourth episode was probably my favorite. It gave an interesting look at how the phrase "my body, my choice" can be twisted. The girls enter that industry mainly for money, not because they enjoy taking their clothes off. Over time, people stop seeing them as human beings and start treating them like products that can be bought and shared. And even when they are emotionally broken and unhappy, many of them continue because they no longer see another way out.

By the fifth episode, I was already starting to lose interest in the story, so I don’t really have much to say about it. The only thing I was happy about was that the dog survived.

The sixth episode was okay, I guess. But again: where did Sky suddenly come from in the finale? The ending clearly hints at another season, and Sky is obviously going to turn out to be more than just some "guy".

Is it really even Nanno?

I commonly see people say that original Nanno was karma. But I have always disagreed. Because like, what is the karma of the mom that found out the man she loved was actually a monster and then had to watch her daughter die? Or all of the innocent kids that were killed in the school shooting by the teacher Nanno pushed into going crazy? Or the artist that had her work stolen that had to hear the audience side with the plagiarist over her?

I think every episode was done in a way that it can be enjoyed at surface level but also at a deeper level its presenting a thought experiment to the audience. And Nanno's role is always just to set up a scenario to leave the audience thinking about it. She often went too far, but that is just one more thing left for the viewers to consider. Which is why there is so much fourth wall breaking where the audience is spoken to or questioned. It's also why each episode almost takes place in it's own universe (hence the ones that ended with everyone but one person disappearing and the world of greyscale).

HOWEVER, in this version, Nanno feels like karma. She is brought in by a victim. And unlike original Nanno, who was typically not sympathetic and was sometimes even dismissive of the "victim", this Nanno comforts them and even works with them directly in getting their revenge. She even stops when one asks her to. And she only goes after the perpetrator. In the first episode, she didn't even go after the main bully's two henchmen. In the second episode, only three boys that took the photos and enabler mom were punished, even though all the boys in the school seemed to be involved in buying the photos.

She also oddly seems both more and less supernatural. Original Nanno often times didn't show her abilities though she had a sort of omnipotent/immortal being of chaos feel, she was just there to set up scenarios and let the chaos fall where it may leaving most of the onus on what happens on the person she is there to use as a lesson. In this, she directly uses her abilities to disappear in front of people, causes cameras to not work, that weird hand thing, etc. in every episode to more directly influence the people around her. And yet, the way she was talked about in the first episode wasn't like an urban legend, but more like a vigilante. And the guy from the first episode seems to be following her like a guy with a crush.

AFTER WATCHING EP 3&4:
Alright, well...these episodes feel like a different Nanno as well. She's not coming in to help victims. It feels more like original Nanno (at least season 2), but more heavy-handed. Less thought-provoking, more this is what we want you to think.

And the guy from episode 1 showing up each time and even taking her on a date is weird. Like Yuri stalking original Nanno set up an interesting juxtaposition between their two styles. I also fully believe Yuri's existence was intentional Nanno was made to be to omnipotent to slip up like that and with how often she gets murdered in bloody ways, seems unlikely that no one got her blood in their mouth before. Like I feel like that was leading up to something, even if it was just part of Yuri's message/lesson as someone who went from victim to accomplice to perpetrator.

But this guy feels like it's about to turn into a K-Drama romance. Like I just don't know where they can go with it that makes sense for either original or this version of Nanno. Maybe he follows her and like sees a little too much of the chaos she leaves behind and decides it's too dark for him. He is the one that pulled back and showed his victim mercy afterall. If he dies, it'd have to be some kind of epic ending for it to make sense. She's bent like the very existence of time and the universe to suit her purposes. She's died and come back, she's had others die and come back. It wouldn't make sense she couldn't bring him back. Oh, unless she isn't really Nanno. That could potentially be an interesting twist. She already isn't original Nanno, but have it be that she isn't even really "Nanno" at all. She could be the daughter from 'Judgement' (final episode of season 2) that Yuri gave Nanno's blood to just using Nanno's name and schtick. Then even her appearance on social media could be a way of undermining the original Nanno.

A essência parece ter se perdido

Minha principal crítica a Girl From Nowhere: The Reset é a perda da essência apresentada na obra anterior.

GIRL FROM NOWHERE : THE RESET? RESET TO DOWNGRADE?!!

Pertama-tama ketika diumumkan Kitty digantikan oleh Becky saja sudah heboh ya kan say! tapi aku mencoba nggak ngejudge Becky dari awal... malah aku mencoba beri dia kesempatan untuk melihat kemampuan aktingnya...

Karakter Nanno ala Kitty, dan Nanno ala Becky tuh vibesnya bedaaa... kalau Nanno ala Kitty tuh = kehadirannya benaran memberi vibes cewe misterius entah dari berantah mana, cara dia memberikan karma tuh tensinya awal-awal tenang, ngikutin arus dulu... membiarkan si karmatur enjoy melihat si Nanno menderita! setelah puas playing victimnya baru deh si Nanno melakukan aksinya, jadi dia tuh benaran menggoyahkan psikologis karmaturnya pelan-pelan, setelah si karmatur ngeh akan si Nanno "bukan cewe biasa" baru deh disitu kegilaan si Nanno muncul.. ketawa khasnya, desahan mengerikannya, terornya muncul tanpa ampun. Sehingga destinasi final si karmatur gendangnya cuma 2, kalau gak metong, ya jadi orgil...
Kalau Nanno ala Becky = cara memberi karmanya.. sat.. set.. sat.. set... hantamm!!! jadi sedari awal langsung terasa bagi si karmatur kalau dia berhadapan dengan bukan cewe biasa... jadi kita nontonnya langsung terasa cepat si karmatur mendapat karma instannya. Aku ada nemu komenan sih katanya ini ibarat universe dimana si Nanno tapi cara balasnya ala si Yuri. Yang brutal dan sat-set-sat-set.
Bagi aku pribadi.... mengingat "The Reset" sebenarnya masuk akal semisal tim penulisnya membuat pembawaan si Nanno se-kontras ini, karena mereka pengen mereset, membuat ulang world-building tempat karakter Nanno ini berada...

Yang Aku Suka : Akting si Becky berhasil membuatku amaze... dia membawakannya dengan baik!! tatapan seramnya, senyuman ala-ala sikopetnya... ataupun cara dia nantangin para karmatur tuh seruu... beneran fearless! dan no mercy!

Dan Yang Tidak Aku Suka :

2. SCREENSCRIPT? DOWNGRADE!!! --- Garis besar "Dari tim penulis yang sama dengan Girl From Nowhere Season 1 & 2" -- Well.. Not helping! mungkin kalau aku gak searching siapa penulis naskahnya, terus dibilang "penulis skripnya keknya lagi mager/ngantuk nulis skripnya" pasti aku setuju-setuju aja... karena beda banget kualitas cerita yang disuguhkan dengan 2 series sebelumnya... bukannya gak enjoy ya! masih bisa ditonton... tapi "apa yang disampaikan" tuh.. masih kurang menggigit! rasanya pas nyelesaikan satu episode, bagi aku pribadi nggak ada sampe terasa "Wahhh! episode ini gilaaa bangetttt!" / "Seru paraaahhh! Terburuk? OnlyNanno.. "my body, my choice!" ceunahhh.... nontonnya kek liat 2 cewe saingan engagement! malah di ending si karmatur yang udah tau resikonya tetap ngelanjutin ngebinal lagi T-T ini juga.. Yalordddd.... geleng-geleng bijpel aku nontonnya!! auto tepok jidat pas episode ini!

***
Kesimpulannya! Akting.. Sky kalau kata gue mah "gausah ngejar-ngejar karma, ketusuk paku kunti kan lu!" metong! entitas karma yang notabene penuh bahaya malah dikejar! makanya pas liat si Sky metong aku refleks "Well.. cinta emang buta yagesyaa!"

Apakah Nanno versi Becky, berhasil menggantikan imej Nanno versi Kitty? Jawabannya masih belummmm!!! Imej "Nanno" yang lama masih menang banyak dari banyak aspek! ketimbang Nanno The Reset. -- Di The Reset ini gak ada satupun adegan ikonik yang ngenaaa banget!! come on... tim penulisnya, kemana semangat menulisnyaa sih??
Malah Nanno ala Kitty tuh masih terngiang sampai sekarang kek... adegan si Nanno diperk*sa! dib*nuh! tapi besoknya tetap datang ke sekolah! dimetongin lagi! besoknya datang lagi ke sekolah! di metongin lagi! dikubur! terus muncul Nanno-Nanno yang lain dari sisi lain! itu creepy mampussss!!! para karmaturnya sampe gilaaaa!! --- Terus cowo yang dihamilin si Nanno! out of the mind! tapi sukses jadi ikonik! gimana semisal cowo dihamilin cewe, dan ditinggalin begitu aja! --- Teror di acara reuni sekolah, yang awalnya mau nostalgia tapi akhirnya jadi ajang saling memb*nuh satu sama lain! --- apalagi the most iconic... Nanno VS Yuri + kampret Junko. -- Which is kalau kita jejerkan dengan 6 episode The Reset... yang mendekati pun belum ada.

Gini... Nanno ala Becky juga bisa kok bersinar dengan versi dia tanpa harus di comparing dengan Nanno versi Kitty! dan kita tahu ini belum akhir dari The Reset... masih ada see you di next semester! itu artinya.. tim penulisnya masih punya waktu untuk memperbaiki kesalahan/kekurangan bumbu plotnya... di The Reset Season 2!

Aku harap suatu hari nanti, kita bakal mengenal Nanno ala Kitty & Nanno ala Becky, sebagai duo entitas karma yang ikonik di universe mereka masing-masing!
tanpa harus membandingkan siapa yang lebih baik!
Sekian dan terima kasih.. :)

Note : kalau kamu mau berbagi opini / kritik kamu bisa komen ya... aku terbuka untuk semua pendapat!
