Hasebe Kyosuke, a lawyer who has given up on pursuing a career as a human rights advocate, now works at a major law firm representing large corporations. In order to maintain the firm’s reputation, he is assigned, under the court-appointed defense system, to defend a housekeeper accused of the murder of a wealthy individual. However, the defendant insists on her innocence, claiming, “I didn’t kill them. I was only trying to help when they were attempting suicide.” The prosecution’s key witness is the only person who saw the incident: a young girl named Koike Nozomi, who lives in the house across the street.
