Follows the downfall of Choi Yo Seop, a lawyer at a major law firm. On the verge of becoming a partner—the firm's highest position—Choi Yo Seop is a figure who has succeeded in cultivating the sleek middle-class lifestyle seen in TV commercials. However, his success at the firm relies more on his loyalty to the firm's founder than on his exceptional legal knowledge. The founder, Attorney Jang, describes Choi as someone to whom one can "entrust a blood-stained knife," implying that Choi is the one who handles the firm's dirty dealings. Choi does not, however, harbor any resentment toward such an assessment. He is a character who believes that "to adapt to a law firm, a knife and scales are more useful to a butcher than to Dike, the goddess of justice," and that "the act of service goes against the law of survival of the fittest." The purpose of his life lies not in elegant but abstract values such as "justice" or "public interest," but in doing his best to outsmart others and survive within the world he inhabits. However, as an unexpected obstacle appeared on Choi Yo Seop's seemingly rapid path to success, his life began to spiral toward cracks and catastrophe.
