The protagonist, “I,” makes a living as a writer, but occasionally finds himself stuck in his work. His on-and-off relationship with his girlfriend has recently become strained, and he also has to maintain a working relationship with an editor he’s not particularly fond of, yet somehow, he manages to keep things together. The seafood doria he once shared with his girlfriend in Yokohama, he washed down its hot sauce with the cool acidity of white wine. There used to be a bar in Golden Gai that served a light highball; he wonders where the owner, who resembled Nakajima Ramo, is now. The gyudon shop he frequented after night shifts, its familiar staff member is no longer there… This is a collection of eight stories centered around “these flavors” in his life.
