A masterpiece that lost its pieces
It was a complicated love story, but once you get used to the pacing and storyline, you’ll begin to appreciate its uniqueness. The drama feels like a work of art, with Shen Mo as the central subject of Mr. Ji’s world. However, to keep Shen Mo by his side, the rich man embodies toxicity. On Shen Mo’s POV, he is someone as his intimate toy, even treating him as a hindrance to his little sister’s happiness. Yet, deep down, he cares for Shen Mo more than he lets on. Their dynamic is a mix of control and obedience, with one dominating and the other choosing to submit. The whole amnesia plot was interesting, although the kidnapping scenes were genuinely traumatic to watch. The toxicity and constant tension between the characters were always present, and these elements became the drama’s main appeal and charm. The actors’ performances made the story even more engaging, and I also enjoyed the steamy scenes. There was something captivating about their complicated relationship that kept me invested, especially during the first half. Unfortunately, that initial charm did not last.
Lost memories, lost momentum. As much as I wanted to learn more about their past, the flashbacks eventually became too prolonged and, for me, marked the beginning of the drama’s downfall. The past revealed more about Shen Mo’s misfortunes and traumatic experiences, adding depth to his character. However, spending several EPs uncovering these revelations felt exhausting. The title itself refers to Shen Mo’s memory loss, so I expected his recovered memories to be a turning point in the story. Instead, the moment he regained them, everything seemed to fall apart.
Amnesia wasn’t the only thing it lost. At first, I really liked Shen Mo’s character. However, during the final few EPs, he became increasingly frustrating to watch. He suddenly seemed reluctant to think things through and careless about the consequences of his actions. After reuniting with Mr. Ji, despite the earlier portrayal that Mr. Ji had a wife and a child, Shen Mo still pushed forward with their relationship, even to the point of acting like a mistress during the nighttime swimming pool painting scene. His sudden shift in behavior felt poorly developed and made the story less interesting. To make things worse, he ended up getting kidnapped again.
Even my patience got kidnapped. By the end, the drama had become almost unbearable to watch and I nearly dropped it. The constant dragging of the plot and the frustrating character decisions of both of them made it difficult to stay invested. What started as a unique and compelling love story eventually became a tiring experience. Truly, there was still a missing piece.

its a not
don't get me wrong I like the actors and they're acting really good in this series in all their scenes and I like the storyline. but with that being said I might have to give it a big hard pass when it comes to cut scenes nothing should be cut if it's supposed to be on a serious it should be in the series the entire scene I don't care for your censorcrap if it's supposed to be in a serious it's supposed to be shown with the series. not for it to be cut or deleted or removed when it was supposed to be originally a part of the series all together it makes no sense. Was this review helpful to you?
It doesn't rely on flashy drama—just heavy silences, painful distance, and the desperation of holding on to someone who has forgotten you completely. If you’re ever in the mood for a slow-burn heartbreak that lingers long after it’s over, this story stays under your skin.

Complex relationship
Very interesting story that doesn't follow common tropes, really nice to watch something that felt unique. There are parts that needed fleshing out a bit more, and some bits were rushed or happened off screen as is often the case with shorter dramas with a time jump, but still a very solid series.Only thing i felt was lacking is his relationship with his parents, i really wanted a proper up yours scene to them with how they treat him, but this was only real part of story that i feel is missing.
Really recommend watching, but it can be a bit heavy emotionally at times so if your like me an can have some anxiety over heavy topics, then make sure your in the right frame of mind for a heavy show as this isn't a fluff piece, but its worth the commitment.

13 is the RIGHT number
For my sake —and for the sake of my nerves— I prefer to stop at episode 13.Honestly, I was expecting that the last 2 episodes to be sweet. Instead, we were thrown into some new, pointless drama—because, well, why not?
I cannot be completely objective about this series, because I also read parts of the novella in order to keep up with the jumps in time.
Yes, it had many flaws; yes, a lot of things could have been done better (like having the NC scenes without clothes 🤣)—but it was okaysh.
The story was okay, and the actors did their job. I wasn’t mesmerized, but it was good enough to make me look forward to the weekends.

At the heart of the series are exceptional performances from Rao Zihao and Hou Mingxuan. Their portrayals feel remarkably natural, grounded, and free of the forced tropes that often plague the genre. In the opening acts, Ji Mingxuan comes across as cold, controlling, and outright abusive. However, as the story unfolds and the missing narrative fragments are layered back in, his character is recontextualized entirely. What once felt predatory begins to make profound sense.
The show handles its central moral ambiguity with care. While the issue of consent is genuine and uncomfortable during the period when Shen Mo mistakes Mingxuan for Zhou Yang, the notion that Mingxuan is merely abusing Shen Mo or coercing him into love loses its footing once the full timeline is revealed.
Narratively, the series relies heavily on non-linear storytelling, emotional misdirections, and the gradual reconstruction of Shen Mo and Ji Mingxuan’s shared history. While connecting the dots can occasionally feel a bit disorienting in the middle chapters, the structural complexity ultimately enriches the plot. By the time you reach the finale, every piece falls satisfyingly into place.
Supported by high production values and a solid, evocative OST, The Missing Piece stands out as a remarkably well-crafted drama, brought to life by an incredible cast who deliver standout performances.
Highly recommended!

OKAY… CHINA, YOU DID IT AGAIN! 😭❤️🔥
Another 10/10 straight to my heart! 🥹💕 Hou Ming Xuan and Rao Zi Hao had me completely invested, and I just didn't want to let go of this one. You know when a pairing makes you feel ALL the things and suddenly you're way too emotionally attached? Yeah… that's me. 😂😭🖤
Chinese BL and bromance stories have really been delivering for me, and this one definitely deserves its place on my list of favorites. ✨
Now excuse me while I try to fill the empty space this series left behind. 🫠💔
10/10 from Yuki! ⭐🇨🇳❤️

So many twist and well worth it
This one really tugs on the heart strings. The chemistry between the leads is amazing. I especially that they did something similar to what the last oath did. If you haven’t seen it. You need to. Heartbreaking moments but they come back around to something good. Well worth it. Definitely on the rewatch list. Was this review helpful to you?
The Chemistry Was There, but the Story Wasn't
What I can say is that the directors literally ruined what could have been a huge hit.Coming here after watching *To My Shore*, *Deep In*, and *Double Helix*, I had pretty high expectations. I know these dramas aren't made by the same production team, but after seeing so many great Chinese BL series, it's hard not to expect something equally impressive.
Ming Xuan and Shen Mo actually had really nice chemistry, but unfortunately, the production never managed to build the right amount of excitement or emotional tension around them.
At some point, it genuinely felt like the writers had run out of ideas and started throwing in unnecessary filler scenes just to keep the story going. The constant time skips made everything even worse. They were so confusing and poorly handled that it became difficult to follow the storyline. If they knew from the beginning that they were going to rely so heavily on time skips, they could have at least used different color grading or some kind of visual distinction to make the timeline clearer.
Overall, watching this drama felt more like a chore than something I could actually enjoy. If I had known it would turn out this way, I would have dropped it much earlier.
Usually, even when a BL starts off slowly, it eventually picks up around the middle and delivers its best moments. Unfortunately, this one never did. From the very first episode to the last, it remained a disappointment.
Such a waste of good chemistry and what could have been a genuinely great story.

The visual chemistry is insane
The story is pretty good. Acting is decent too. The actor playing Shen Mo is so pretty. The only issue I have with the drama is the it's too fast paced. There are some nuances that you cannot get unless you have read the novel. The director should've added some more details. The ost is good too. I wish they had added more Ji-Mo moments post memory loss. One problem with the production was that the actors weren't given enough time to familiarise with eachother. Intimate scenes are very good but in some places the actors were definitely uncomfortable. They've been on my feed for some time and their intimacy level looks more natural now than before. I hope they'll soon do another drama. Was this review helpful to you?
I NEED THE NEXT EPISODES NOW! ?
OMG what did I just watch?! 😭🔥 The Missing Piece came out swinging and I was NOT prepared for how intense this would be. The chemistry between the leads is seriously on another level, and the whole atmosphere feels dangerous, seductive and unpredictable. jiMingxuan might be one of the biggest walking red flags I have seen in a while, but I cannot take my eyes off him. He is powerful, possessive and completely obsessed, while Shen Mo has this softer and more innocent energy that makes their dynamic even more addictive. Rao Zi Hao and Hou Ming Xuan absolutely understood their roles because their contrast works SO well together. Even the music and beautiful OST surprised me, giving the emotional scenes a completely different feeling. 🎶❤️Only TWO episodes and somehow we already have jealousy, obsession, ex lover drama, complicated relationships, passionate kisses and enough chaos for an entire series. 😂🚩 I especially love that the story actually has an interesting psychological plot behind all the romance, so it never feels like the series is relying on chemistry alone. Every time I think I understand where the story is going, something else happens and makes the situation even messier. This is definitely not a peaceful green flag romance, and that is exactly why I am having so much fun watching it. If the first two episodes are already this wild, I seriously cannot imagine what the remaining thirteen have waiting for us. I NEED THE NEXT EPISODES NOW! 🔥
