A masterpiece that lost its pieces

It was a complicated love story, but once you get used to the pacing and storyline, you’ll begin to appreciate its uniqueness. The drama feels like a work of art, with Shen Mo as the central subject of Mr. Ji’s world. However, to keep Shen Mo by his side, the rich man embodies toxicity. On Shen Mo’s POV, he is someone as his intimate toy, even treating him as a hindrance to his little sister’s happiness. Yet, deep down, he cares for Shen Mo more than he lets on. Their dynamic is a mix of control and obedience, with one dominating and the other choosing to submit. The whole amnesia plot was interesting, although the kidnapping scenes were genuinely traumatic to watch.

The toxicity and constant tension between the characters were always present, and these elements became the drama’s main appeal and charm. The actors’ performances made the story even more engaging, and I also enjoyed the steamy scenes. There was something captivating about their complicated relationship that kept me invested, especially during the first half. Unfortunately, that initial charm did not last.

Lost memories, lost momentum. As much as I wanted to learn more about their past, the flashbacks eventually became too prolonged and, for me, marked the beginning of the drama’s downfall. The past revealed more about Shen Mo’s misfortunes and traumatic experiences, adding depth to his character. However, spending several EPs uncovering these revelations felt exhausting. The title itself refers to Shen Mo’s memory loss, so I expected his recovered memories to be a turning point in the story. Instead, the moment he regained them, everything seemed to fall apart.

Amnesia wasn’t the only thing it lost. At first, I really liked Shen Mo’s character. However, during the final few EPs, he became increasingly frustrating to watch. He suddenly seemed reluctant to think things through and careless about the consequences of his actions. After reuniting with Mr. Ji, despite the earlier portrayal that Mr. Ji had a wife and a child, Shen Mo still pushed forward with their relationship, even to the point of acting like a mistress during the nighttime swimming pool painting scene. His sudden shift in behavior felt poorly developed and made the story less interesting. To make things worse, he ended up getting kidnapped again.

Even my patience got kidnapped. By the end, the drama had become almost unbearable to watch and I nearly dropped it. The constant dragging of the plot and the frustrating character decisions of both of them made it difficult to stay invested. What started as a unique and compelling love story eventually became a tiring experience. Truly, there was still a missing piece.
