Worth the watch - Pretty Cute
This show had adorable and sweet actors. The production is different but fun - especially the soundtrack and animations. The plot twist was nice - got my ass LoL. There is a cute dog throughout the series who’s presence is much appreciated #Rock. However, the 10th episode felt so out of place and rushed and overall definitely wished there was more affection between the mains, because they had the chemistry! Lastly, the family/household dynamic was refreshing and made me smile a lot! I’m glad those around Natsuki were so supportive and uplifting 🥹

I kept waiting for the storm the title promised.
Your Summer, My Storm surprised me. I went in with the reservations I usually have about Japanese BL — too sweet, too cautious, too predictable — and for a while, the series genuinely disarmed them. What it does well is rare. When Natsuki starts developing feelings for Sota, he doesn't question his sexuality. He simply asks: what kind of feeling is this, exactly? And when Sota finds out, his response is equally honest — not “that's impossible” but “I need to figure out what I feel too.” For a genre that often rushes past this moment, that kind of restraint is quietly impressive.
The family around them is handled with the same care. Natsuki's sister, his mother, even his father — each of them reacts with something closer to real human complexity than the usual shortcuts. Nobody performs acceptance. They figure it out at their own pace.
And yet, I left the series genuinely frustrated — and I've been sitting with why.
Part of it is straightforward: the series ends precisely where I wanted it to continue. Sota and Natsuki reach a quiet understanding — romantic feelings, acknowledged, undefined, real — and then he's leaving for London for two years. The series arrives at its emotional destination and removes it almost simultaneously.
But my frustration goes deeper than that.
Because the series never really addresses what Natsuki actually wants from this relationship beyond the feelings themselves. I understand and appreciate that romantic love doesn't have to look a certain way, and that it doesn't automatically have to involve physical intimacy. Relationships that are quiet, non-physical or don't fit a conventional mould deserve to be seen too.
But if that is the kind of relationship the series wanted to portray, I needed it to give that aspect some room as well. Does Natsuki want physical closeness? Does he want to kiss Sota? Does it simply not matter to him? What does intimacy actually mean to them? None of that is really explored. And without it, I sometimes struggled to distinguish between a love story that deliberately exists outside conventional ideas of romance and a very close friendship — especially because the series itself never really defines the difference beyond telling us that their feelings are romantic.
I also kept waiting for the storm the title promised. What I got was a warm, unhurried summer — which has its own kind of beauty, and its own kind of value.
I just think I've seen enough BLs where things actually happen that sitting with one where almost nothing does, and where even the emotional payoff is quietly taken away before you can really experience it, was harder than I expected.
Your Summer, My Storm is a good series. It takes its subject seriously and handles it with real sensitivity. But I needed it to be a little braver about what it had built.

Sweet & Innocent
This is such an adorable "coming of age" BL ... it's innocent and gives you a really good feeling in watching it.The two protagonists eventually blend well together. At first, you don't get a vibe for anything between them, whether as friends or anything else ... but that changes in a big way. By episode 6, which is the pinnacle episode of the series, all the chemistry starts to work, not just between them, but for the supporting cast as well.
The series shows the powerful importance in family and in friendship. We see a strong bond between brother and sister, as well as parents and children. It shows us that not everything is a simple explanation when it comes to feelings toward two people, and how difficult it can be in figuring it out for everyone involved.
Ryusei Fukada always seems to be starring in a series that's underrated. That was the case in "My Strawberry Film" and this one is no different. The numbers don't reflect how enjoyable this series was to watch.
I think if I had to come up with a negative about it, the finale was rushed a little bit, giving us a quick ending ... but as it does conclude, we're given a few subtle hints there will be a season 2 somewhere in the near future. Hopefully that's the case. Looking forward to it!!!

One more to add to the Kawaii JBL gang..super cute, simple and wholesome
Super cute JBL Alert!!! I think this was just the kind I needed with so many bleak and dark ones airing...the Japanese Kawaaii 🥰BL-Needle Score: 7. Reasonable BL-ness so far
The visuals and drift gives me vibes similar to Chosen Home, which was one of most favourite JBLs in the recent times.... though the story is less of slice of life-philosophy-coded in comedy kind that Chosen Home was, it just gives off the same lighthearted feel good...may be add a dash of 'family wholesome' ...maybe a cross between Chosen Home and School Trip: Joined a Group I’m Not Close To, if you know what I mean....even if the storyline hints that the brother will fall for the elder sister's boyfriend ...it doesn't look like there will be much of a hard feelings here given how casual Sota and Riyo's 'relationship' seems to be ...
I just loved the warm, close-knit their family and friends seem to be....and how Natsuki's fandom, his mom's friends immediately cheer him up after being dumped 🥰
I thoroughly enjoyed this. 💓
Verdict: Watch

A quiet summer, a gentle love
This was such a gentle and comforting watch. It has that quiet charm that Japanese BLs do so well, where the story unfolds naturally without relying on unnecessary drama. I really enjoyed the calm atmosphere and the way the relationship developed through small moments rather than grand gestures. The leads had a sweet, believable chemistry, making it easy to root for them from the beginning. More than anything, I appreciated how the drama embraced simplicity. It wasn't trying to shock or constantly raise the stakes, it simply focused on two people slowly finding comfort in each other. I do wish it had left a slightly stronger emotional impact because I never became completely attached to the story, but it was still a lovely, easy watch that left me with a smile. Was this review helpful to you?

Most suprising drama for this summer.
The reason I clicked on Drama is because of the line "falling in love with sister's boyfriend." Out of curiosity and shock, I decided to watch this drama. But now, I feel like I'm really into this.I love the view in this drama and the filter, which make me feel like it is actually summer now.
To many people, the misunderstanding that happened in the drama could be a bit cliché, but to me, I do like this setting, as I think it makes me really engaged and nervous about how things are going to happen. And in Japanese, they actually didn't use the right word for boyfriend at all. I believe they always stated Sota as a boy friend in their post.
The ending wasn't surprising to me, as I just felt this was what was going to happen in this Drama. Even though they both already admitted they like each other, I totally understand their choice of not putting a label on this relationship.
Another thing I really like about this BL is the lines in it. Many of the Lines are very meaningful and make people think. Whether it is about love, relationships, or anything.
One of my favourite scenes is how Natsuki is willing to speak to his dad and express his true feelings about Sota, and Sota is also willing to speak to Natsuki's dad about how he feels. I'm so touched by the lines that Natsuki said he likes Sota not because he is a man; he doesn't like the girl he dated before not because they are girl. He likes Sota only because he is Sota.
While watching this drama, I think it is very wholesome because everyone is really warm and friendly here. Even though the story plot of falling in love with a sister's boyfriend is a bit dramatic, the way they filmed it and how they wrote the script make it less dramatic.
Btw, the doggy Rock is so cute :)

A beautiful story about family and love
I’m really loving this series, it feels like something new because usually highschool jbls mostly focus on the evolution of the relationship between the two male leads, while this series shows a deeper view of how difficult it is for a teenager to accept the thought of liking someone the same gender as them and how that is seen by their parents. There is not much romance because it’s a journey that both of the leads intraprend together to understand better their feelings but it’s still very sweet.I particularly like the way the characters communicate with eachother to find a common ground and to understand that love is not only between a man and a woman but it’s a deeper bond which should not be constrained by gender.
Really amazing I recommend.

feels just like summer ♡
this is the story of Natsuki - a free spirited high school student. he's also not the most attentive when it comes to academics. when his parents find out about his abysmal grades, his sister decides to send her boyfriend Souta to tutor him.the first episode was so cute!
both leads are incredibly handsome! especially the actor playing Souta - Hidaka is sooo pretty! i couldn't take my eyes off of him the whole time🥹
the cinematography is absolutely stunning! as it often is with most Japanese bls 💙 the cool summer tones and the beautiful blue skies are so soothing to watch. they have the perfect summer vibes!
Natsuki's family is so warm and lovable. their adorable samoyed pet dog Rock, a huge ball of fluff, is bound to bring a smile to anyone's face!
so far, I really liked the first episode 🥰 excited to see how it goes💙
fun fact : natsuki (夏輝) in Japanese means "summer radiance/glow" ✨️
that really adds up to the theme of this drama 🥹

vibrant family drama
Overall: if you want to watch the romance, then you could start the series at episode 8 and miss very little. It focuses more on coming of age/family dynamics. 10 episodes about 23 minutes each. Aired on GagaOOLala https://www.gagaoolala.com/en/videos/8296/your-summer-my-storm-2026-e01 (not available in Japan or Korea), Viki https://www.viki.com/tv/41634c-your-summer-my-storm and TVer for Japan.Content Warning: high schooler/university character (did not bother me, and they kept it very pg), homophobia
What I Liked
- fluffy dog
- quirky vibe
- family dynamics, supportive mom and sister
- "let's figure it out together"
- I was okay with how that ended
Room For Improvement
- an aspect regarding the sister, thought things were finally revealed in episode 6
- romance didn't hook me
