Image of a Mother (1959)

Since his mother’s death, Segawa Michio has lived alone with his father, a water bus operator, finding companionship in Dede, the carrier pigeon his mother left him. His familiar life begins to change when his father remarries, and Michio suddenly finds himself sharing his home with a new mother and stepsister, Emiko. Although Michio likes his new family, he feels uneasy when people around him insist that he calls his stepmother "Mom."
