The Invited
I can see why they titled the movie The Uninvited, but that doesn’t match the Korean title, and the English name is already overused in Korean cinema. My first note is that the English title should have been more original. The problem is not that the guests are uninvited — they were all invited. They become unwanted. They turn into a threat / invaders. This is an omnibus horror-mystery with three stories, each kept minimal: two central characters and only a few extras in the background. The highlight of the plot is that the “dear guest” becomes something threatening, and that shift gives the film enough suspense to stay interesting.
I liked the first story, 손톱쥐 (Nail Mouse), the most. It is short and effective. The second, 오빠의 빵 (My Brother’s Bread), was interesting and mysterious, but I didn’t quite understand what happened at the end. The last one, 무니 (Moony), dragged a bit, and I was confused by the religious elements.
