The film centers on four Japanese high school girls involved in enjo kosai, or compensated dating, where older businessmen pay teenage girls for their time or, in rare cases, prostitution. The main character, Hiromi, struggles with finding direction in life compared to her friends. When they plan to buy her a ring, Hiromi refuses to accept all the money and instead dates alone to raise the funds.
