I loooooovvvvedddd the show. I fell in love with Wallace Huo as Ba Zi Hua. And Zanilia as Hua Qian Gu was cute and sweet but can be sexy and sultry when she chooses. Ma Ke as Sha Jie Jie was simply too beautiful for words. The story pulled me in and is still not letting me go. Its so heart touching it literally touches your soul. Never watched a show so beautiful that it stays with you for weeks. If I could rate it beyond 10 I would do so as it totally deserves a 10+. All the actors performed really well but Wallace Huo was the best and he is my most favorite actor. I recommend the show to everyone cause you will miss watching out such a great show. I had the show for a long time but didnt watch it immediately as I got scared off with the number of episodes but after watching it I regretted not watching it sooner. The music is hauntingly beautiful and one of the tracks which is sung by the main leads is mesmerizing and is still stuck in my head.

Story: Personally I don't see anything special for the story. It's nothing bad but also nothing new either. But the worst to me actually are that there are MANY bugs, SPOILERS like where Dong Fang Yu Qing could actually just got his revenged and killed everyone easily instead of going back and forth. Furthermore it's kinda making one less empathetic for the deaths, since everyone is dying due their love. To me those bugs, where bothering a lot. While the first half of the drama was still somewhat entertaining, the later half I felt it got weaker in my eyes.

Acting/Cast: The acting is acting good from the whole cast. I personally think Dong Fang Yu Qing, Sha Qian Mo and Yuyin's actors were standing out he most. I'm not saying that the leads are bad, but they are playing the more stereotypical roles, which are easier in my eyes.
Music: Nothing to complain about, the BGM is doing a good job and suiting the drama.
Overall: To me an average workpiece with some annoying bugs and weak script writing. Fans of Zhanliying and Wallace Huo might like the drama despite the shortcomings.

This is the best drama I watched in 2015, I never jump or miss an epd, very interesting and exciting, the cast are good. Actress Zanilia Zhao Li Ying very good actress, no wonder she won so many awards in 2015 for this drama including the Macau International Award for the Best Actress.

For my totally uneventful weekend, I planned to spice things up with what I thought would be a breathtaking fantasy romance. I also love both leads from other dramas so I knew that they can act.

Here I am at 1am at the end of my weekend, and after a marathon of watching I have to say I was insanely disappointed.

Story:

The story is so insanely dramatic, if you are the hopeless romantic type (lets face it most of us are on MDL) you might forgive lapses here and there in certain dramas *cough*Boys over flowers*cough*, but here its too constant, that you feel your intelligence is insulted. Everyone is in love with the main lead and she is 2D throughout the drama and not at all relatable. Then the love triangle eventually morphs into a love octagon, which is too convoluted. If that wasn't bad enough, the love that they express and the decisions they make with that love in mind should have them in straightjackets! I think the whole cast could probably benefit from a reeducation on love, especially script writers.

Acting:

I like the main leads acting, I just wish the script hadn't let them down. I couldn't help but get annoyed at the fact that Bai Zi Hua didn't really get any character development until the last 5 episodes of the show. Also Hua Qian Gu was nicely portrayed but the character wasn't created with much depth. The rest of the cast were highly irritating from the forced constant laughs, repeated draggy scenes, unrealistic love portrayals and lack of emotional depth.

Music:

Music was probably my favourite it flowed well with the show.

Rewatch value:

Rewatch? I would rather tap dance on my kidneys!

This drama series was not all that hard for me to rate. Did I like it? Sure, I did but it took a while for me to actually get into it.

STORY:

Why I liked it:
1.) The Journey of Flower has an interesting story.

2.) Sha Jie Jie was the best character in the whole drama. (That's about it!~)

3.) Everyone played their role good.

Why I didn't like it:
1.) Hua Qian Gu's purity and innocence was annoying. She had no backbone whatsoever and was too forgiving. Also a big downfall about her was that she was too wimpy. I've seen other girls in different dramas who did the whole "pure & innocent" role way better. At least they weren't wimpy in their role. This is not to say, that I didn't like her at all, I did but those moments were few and far in between.

2.) I thought Bai Zi Hua was a d*ck for almost the whole series. He only redeemed himself in my eyes in the last 5 or so episodes.

MUSIC:

7.5 / 10 Nothing bad to say about it.

REWATCH VALUE:

Would I re-watch it if given the chance/ or should an opportunity arise? No. That is a big NO for me. 50 episodes with an ok and super wimpy female lead makes me cringe. I would cry so hard if I had to see it again. Watching it one time through was enough for me.

OVERALL THOUGHTS:

The story was ok. Tha acting was alright. The music was good. CGI was bad at times and both leads could be aggravating at times but you should definitely give this drama a watch. If you are like me, then you should be able to tell with the first few episodes if you will continue with the drama or not. I know that this drama will not be for everyone.

I'm little dissapointed. It's not what I expected. The acting is ok but the story is a little boring and ridiculous. The romance between the leads is way too little.
So I don't know why it has so high score. I'm only watching it because Zhao Li Ying. This is long not as good as Boss and Me and that has only 8.5 score.

The male lead was just not worthy...

I dropped this because I could not handle the toxic relationship between the FL and ML--or the fact that everyone kept blaming a teenage girl for having a crush on a grown man SHE WAS SENT TO LIVE WITH ALONE! And then when he willingly banished her into a place where (it was implied) she was sexually assaulted by a group of bandits and then he had the gall to say it was best for her to be there--I was done. Especially since the SML was a thousand times better person than the ML (even if he was supposedly evil). It was just too ridiculous and I couldn't take it any more.

The Price of Absolutes

"In this world some are obsessed with justice and evil, some with life and death, some with right and wrong, some with love and hatred."
That single quote captures the entire philosophy of The Journey of Flower.

At its heart, this is not simply a romance, nor is it a story about forbidden love. It is a tragedy about what happens when people become prisoners of a single idea. The drama repeatedly shows that the opposites we create, good and evil, love and hatred, right and wrong, immortals and demons, are far less absolute than people believe.

The Philosophy

The story argues that justice, love, duty, and righteousness are not the problem. They are all noble values. The tragedy begins when any one of them becomes so absolute that it blinds people to compassion, wisdom, and understanding.
The immortal sects call themselves righteous, yet often commit acts of cruelty. Meanwhile, characters labelled as demons repeatedly display loyalty, kindness, and self-sacrifice. The drama constantly asks:
If someone commits cruelty in the name of justice, are they truly righteous?
If someone called a demon acts with compassion, are they truly evil?
Its answer is clear: labels are unreliable. Character is revealed through choices, not titles.

The Characters

Every major character becomes consumed by something different.
Bai Zihua by duty.
Hua Qiangu by love.
Mo Yan by justice and reputation.
Sha Qianmo by love and loyalty.
Dongfang Yuqing by revenge.
None of them is entirely right or entirely wrong. Their downfall is not what they value, but their inability to let go when those values become absolute.
Love without wisdom becomes attachment.
Duty without compassion becomes cruelty.
Justice without understanding becomes prejudice.
This is what makes the tragedy so devastating.

One of the drama's most interesting aspects is that Hua Qiangu almost functions as a mirror. She does not create the virtues or flaws in those around her, she reveals them. Around her, compassion grows stronger, fear turns into paranoia, and attachment becomes self-destruction. Hua Qiangu becomes the catalyst through which everyone else's absolute beliefs, fears, and attachments are exposed. In that sense, many characters blame her for tragedies that ultimately grow out of their own choices and unresolved conflicts.

The Themes

Beyond its fantasy setting, The Journey of Flower explores remarkably rich themes:
love and sacrifice
duty versus compassion
prejudice and rigid labels
redemption
responsibility and consequences
fate versus free will
the loss of innocence
forgiveness over revenge

Storytelling

The plot develops organically. Early events and prophecies gain meaning much later, major twists arise naturally from character decisions, and every arc builds upon the previous one. The story evolves constantly, from disciple and master, to sect conflicts, the Savage Wasteland, and finally the Demon Deity arc, without ever feeling repetitive.
Most importantly, every emotional turning point feels earned.

Final Thoughts

The Journey of Flower is not merely a fantasy romance. It is a philosophical tragedy about compassion, responsibility, and the danger of turning any noble value into an absolute.
Its greatest lesson is perhaps this:
The greatest tragedies do not arise from love, duty, justice, or hatred themselves, but from clinging to any one of them so absolutely that compassion, wisdom, and truth are lost.

I stumbled upon The Journey of Flower by chance and couldn't stop watching. More than a decade after its release, I found it to be one of the most philosophically rich xianxia dramas I've seen. It genuinely surprised me that, even in 2026, a drama made in 2015 offers stronger storytelling than many recent productions. It proves that memorable dramas are built not on visual spectacle alone, but on compelling characters and meaningful themes.

in the drama the end is happy ending, but not detail as in novel.. so many viewer still hope for the season 2 for this drama.. but I love this drama because Zhao Liying perfectly play the role as Hua Qian Gu, so I I really enjoy to watch this drama.. in china when this drama is airing this drama become the Highest Rating even winning from The empress of China (the drama with High budget and Play by most famous actress Fan bing bing) but the Journey of flower is winner than this empress of china, because all the character in the journey of flower is really perfectly cast, specially my Xiao Gu.. I love the actress a lot she play so well as Xiao gu

One of my all time favorite drama. The actors and actress all fit their role and the story was funny and touching. I fell in love with the main actress since watching her on this drama. I even bought the DVD!!!
And the ending... Wow speechless just the ending itself I watched it over 5 times, and each time is still as good.
After watching it, I was eager for season 2, but once it came out it was a disappointment. Really unrelated to the first one.

Those who love wuxia/romance drama should watch this! This was my first Chinese drama as it was popular in China and Taiwan, so I decided to give it a try. I ended up watching all of the episodes in 3 days. The opening and ending of this drama are perfect including the lyrics! They are a few times/scenes that made me emotional/cried. It's really worth watching as I haven't watch as much episodes as other drama before! The acting in this drama are superb even though the CG effect are not good enough! Became a fan of Zanilia Zhao and Wallace Huo after watching this!

P.S: Please correct me if I have made a grammatical error, thanks!
