First, the amazingly over-flowing chemistry between Ban Ji Hyun and Yoon Dong Ha, it gets you stuck to your screen, Just Perfect.
Second, the wonderfully hilarious Bromance, Wow, Yong Su Chul, you can burst into laughter just as he shows up on screen.
Third, the sidekicks stories, was quite entertaining, I mean it's not just the main leads, but there are others in the drama as well.
Finally, The MUSIC, this was my first time knowing Spica, and their music is wonderful, You Don't Love Me from the first episode just a perfect fit for the situation.
I know you won't regret watching this drama, I haven't seen the Taiwanese version, but if you did, I think you can enjoy this one.... WATCH THIS, YOU'RE GONNA HAVE FUN

Underrated-- it dates really well!
People love to hate on this drama, and I can never understand why, because having watched a LOT of Noona romance, this is, in my opinion, one of the best. It's my Holy Grail of Kdramas. Much superior to the Taiwanese one it's based on. It's funny, it's cute, and it's romantic. It's so good, I made my boyfriend watch it-- and he is not a drama fan-- too tropey for him-- and he really enjoyed this one. He agreed the chemistry between the two leads is off the charts. I also made him watch My ID is Gangnam Beauty and while he liked that, he still agrees this one is better, just because it flows really well. It's a great drama with a really interesting storyline, it's got a tight story pace, and though it lulls a tiny bit in the middle, it kept me hooked. I never fast forwarded any of it, and I am a serial fast forwarder in Kdramas. The B stories are all stellar, the acting is top-notch and the chemistry is something else. It's also dated really well, I have rewatched it three times now, and it never gets old, for me. If I had to criticize something, it's towards the end, but it's still pretty great. It's also rather funny show-- the side characters are all just hilarious, none of them hit annoying at all, from her mother to her best friend to the ML's best friend and their 'bromance'. All of them are great. It's so rare to find a drama where I like everyone, even the love rival-- even the enemies, and the B stories are amazing and funny.
The criticisms from this drama seem to be by pretty young people that have an issue with the age gap; it's 14 years in the drama but more IRL. Honestly, people need to get over it. They are both adults, he is the pursuer, and it is way less weird than other Noona romances like 'I (Can) Hear Your Voice', where the love interest is a High Schooler. I like that one, but I found the gap more cringy than this. Plus the FL is fire in this, her fashion is top notch, her legs are too die for, and she is extremely beautiful. How can you blame the ML for being into her? The only criticism is her hair is kinda crunchy at the start, maybe overly processed-- people seem to complain about this a lot. Her hair is something that is corrected later and you don't even notice as you keep watching. Again, I wish I had her legs and body. I like that she is unapologetically 'curvy' (well, for a Kdrama lead, at least). It's really refreshing. And the ML is great to look at too.
This is extremely extremely underrated Noona romance drama. Like I said, it's by far my fave Noona romance drama. If you like the genre, give it a try. and stick with it I feel like people who didn't give it a chance either are pretty young and can't relate to the FL (which is a valid thing, sure) but honestly, if you give it a chance, this drama really shines.
I give it a 10 to balance some of the weird low ratings it gets. It deserves way more than it gets here.

Santa Claus without a bicycle
All in all, a nice story, the opening scene with bicycle-pursuit is really Oscar-worthy. In general, the story follows this easy-going, often very funny introduction to the romance. The only embarrassing and failed character is the ex-lover of FL, No Shi Hoon. This person is really a dubious egoistic character.
This unsympathetic character has been a real failure for the writers. I almost stopped the series because of this poser. That would have been a shame, because overall it was a very entertaining, often funny story.
Visually, I could hardly make out the age difference of the main couple. The FL seems young and attractive, the ML in turn sensible and detached. It fits! And friends, there are such couples in real life! I knew a happy old couple with an age difference of over 15 years! age difference.

✒Santa Seoul vs Ancient Curse-Castor 〰 A ♥️ For The Ages °8° °Excellent°
Let's Brew Laughs & Some Abraca〰Boom〰Shakalaka.Herein is a cauldron of romcom excellence. Is it a bit silly? Absolutely, but in a familiar sense. There's enough good directing, acting, and writing to balance it out. (Just look at the team!). Poof! This is a potion of loves, laughs, & crackling sparks of electricity far exceeding my low expectations. It all makes AW💘 fly.
There's no boil, boil, trouble or toil about it. If a viewer doesn't like AW💘, then that viewer doesn't like simple romcoms that are a happy lift to life's drudgery. If you don't like rom-coms, why are you even watching this? I can't make sense of its rating, particularly in comparison to worse shows that are rated higher. AW💘 just does it for me. I don't understand why What's Wrong With Secretary Kim-6.8 is rated higher. I don't understand why someone would like Abyss-4.7, 100 Days My Prince-5.5, or Bring It On Ghost-4.6, more. But we are all different. I am of the firm opinion that AW💘 Is under appreciated. We tend to overrate our gateway Kdramas and this is one of mine. I decided to pick off an episode here and there again to see if I still felt the same way. I do. These two are superb actors & they connect. They connect like a giant puzzle made out of hot water bottles. Everything fits snug and cozy and warm. The heat just radiates. I wish I could think of a better term than chemistry, but when they look at e/o I can feel it. Even with her bad hair and too much makeup, I can feel the connection. That's literally chemistry at work, given it's a hormonal response. I guess there's no better term. On paper it's mostly standard stuff, but the execution is well above average. I attribute it to the 2 leads; it's not something I can argue out with words, it's more the way they make me feel, but we'll give it a go anyway.
“Are you sure it's an exclusive?” They both put on school uniforms, even though they are each over 30. Ban’s coworker looks concerned, “What's my nickname?” She's practically carefree. “The Witch!” She gives him an evil look as she corrects: “Gwanghwamun Antenna!” Her target today is an actor (soon-to-be politician). He looks like the perfect man, but he's actually got a side piece and an illegitimate daughter. He's at the school for a political appearance, but he's also there to see his 2nd family. Ban is a reporter spying undercover - school uniform and all. She & her assistant end up being chased by school security - and he was paying attention during the morning's self-defense class put on by the police. He's gaining on them! She's desperate.
In the meantime, our ML is a saint. He's spending his day in a 🎅 outfit handing out toys to disadvantaged kids.
How would these 2 ever meet? She steals one of the kid's bikes. That's how. He chases her… for miles. He's tenacious that way. There they go, on one of Seoul’s 16-lane thruways; her pedaling, him running. It's White Day in Kcountry. The radio jockey proclaims: On a day like this, never make a woman angry. Ever. White day is for sending ‘thanks-yous’ for Valentine's Day treats received. Thanks for nuthin.
AW💘 is a 2014 release consisting of 16 60-minute episodes. There's pithy repertoire. Screenwriter Ban Ki Ri also wrote the excellent Missing: The Other Side-8.3, and this director, Lee Jeong Hyo, gave us a string of hits including Romance Is a Bonus Book-7.9 and Crash Landing on You-9.1. Uhm Jung Hwa (Our Blues-8.5, Doctor Cha) is our FL, “Ban” Ji Yun. She's even more beautiful now than when this show aired. Her character is ruthless and without empathy. She tells the children, who by now our ML gathered in her employer's lobby, that there is NO SANTA! (The sooner they learn about the big, cold world, the better.) Park Seo Joon (WWW Sec Kim, Itaewon Class-8.9) is our delish ML, Yoon Dong “Ha”. He looks so young in this! In the 2013 show, I Summon You, Gold!, he's the 4th listed of 5 leads, so this show is his first romantic ML role and seems to have spring-boarded his career. In AW💘, he starts out in the 🎅 suit, until she yanks off his beard & hat, thus exposing the lie of 🎅 to the kids. They'll then proceed to dismantle their very lives.
“If Santa's not real, how about witches?” Ha still hasn't given up. Her response is emphatic: “What's wrong with a witch? It's better than Snow White who only depends on others and causes a nuisance. An independent witch is 💯×s better.” So Ban declares, while standing under the ‘Trouble Maker Magazine’ sign designating her place of employment. Naturally, these 2 loathe e/o from the start.
After the 🎅 Incident, she overhears her coworkers snickering about her. “A witch like that can never get married!” Well, she's 39 and no one's nibbling. They could have a point. Her mother tells her to get married -daily- but it's had nil effect. She could die alone in her apartment and it could be weeks before anyone knows! Her fish would die! The subject of marriage takes her to a dark place. She almost got married… Her fiance, No Shi Hoon (Han Jae Suk of Should My Tears Show & Check in Hanyang), disappeared. Now, Oma is near panicked: “You're almost too old to have a baby!” (Yang Hee Kyung, from Sunny, If You Wish Upon Me, does a nice job as Choi Jung Sook Ban's mother). So mom's a regular at the Shaman's. Officially, the shaman says that Ban lacks yang energy, but unofficially: “Your daughter is “a dirty witch with the energy of a viper!” - This shaman is on point!.
One might expect that when she took that elevator away from him, the kids, and the lobby, that they wouldn't see e/o again anytime soon. Fate intervened later that /very/ night, though. She's at a company dinner and he was invited out by a friend. He sees her get embarrassed 〰 very publicly 〰 and he, the 🎅-soul that he is, takes pity. It's a kissing contest. They share a doozie.
Looking simpatico, they leave together, but as soon as they are out of sight, she's arguing. She doesn't appreciate feeling like a charity case. She's already deduced that her work friends hired the man who embarrassed her. Ha points out that they must have felt very harassed by her if they took the drastic step of banding together to strike at her. He's definitely more mature than her in this scene - & most scenes. As it unfolds, we learn that she has no friends. The one friend she has (Ra Mi Ran of The Good Bad Mother & Reply 1988-8.6 portrays Baek Na Rae) married a guy she hates (Lee Sae Chang from Let Me Be Your Knight). It is so weird to see Ms Ra playing a giggly woman! She's usually authoritative. She's clearly having a blast. She even acts cute with her husband. It made me chuckle, and it made me uncomfortable at the same time. They have a wonderful time together, the 4 of them, at Na-Raes’ restaurant.
Next day: Mom drags Ban, under protest, to the shaman's. Handyman Ha happens to be in another room working on some repairs. He hears it all, particularly mom's sobbing over her daughter's lonely existence. (Narsha is a cutie as the shaman, but she doesn't get much work). After the literal beat down at the shaman's, Ban goes and gets drunk. “All of her relationships started when she was drunk,” we hear from Na-Rae. Ha has /already/ headed out to help her 〰 a bad habit he formed rather quickly. He finds & helps her. She helps herself to /him/. Then she sees his resident card… And his DOB. She is 1.4 decades older than he. 😱
OUT! GET OUT!
What she doesn't know is that he's now living right next door to her, with a friend. He also ends up in a dispute with her company which lands him as her assistant as part of the settlement. They won't be able to avoid e/o. At the same time, she's made an enemy. The actor she exposed is really ambitious. He sued her over her story, but things like that don't work against Ban, so he's resorted to more drastic (violent) measures. Ban’s boss has charged her new assistant with keeping her safe. She can't shake this kid.
That balance of the show is them drawing closer, her being in bigtime denial, and the fiance popping back up making a mess of things. There's a couple of cute 2ndary couples and there's lots of hanging at Na-Rae’s place.
The show does go beneath the surface a few inches to examine how society views older women and younger men. Even Ban's mother, who starts a thing with a man 5 years her junior, has to go through a gut-check when she thinks about her daughter with a man who's 14 years younger.
Society is actually like cat fur. It stands on end when we see something too unfamiliar. A fundamental problem, beyond the darkness that inhabits the human heart, is a lack of exposure. The biggest obstacle to a couple who doesn't fit into the everyday mold is the pressure put on them by everybody else. If you're about to go into an atypical relationship, be willing to leave family and friends behind. You'll likely be able to reconcile, in time; if not, then your F&F are entirely too controlling, and leaving was the right move anyway. These issues are for the couple to work out. Why do the rest of us need to have any opinion on it?
As with every relationship, it depends on the two individuals. People born on the same day at the same time might be the worst couple ever. People born 20 years apart might be a very comfortable fit. Doesn't appeal to you? No one is making you do it. After the movie Harold Maude, I can hardly be shocked at this one. In the movie, Leon The Professional, Natalie Portman plays a 12-year-old girl whose family is slaughtered. She, alone, is alive because Leon rescued her in the nick of time. They were strangers & he took pity on her. The bad guys are determined to eliminate all witnesses, so she has to rely on Leon for safety. She falls into keeping the home. They never kiss: If they had a sexual relationship, he should go to jail. However, as it stands, would I separate these two? Never. There are relationships forged in combat that are stronger than any other bond possible; deeper than most romances. These 2 are different ages, but they have the same sort of pain, and pain does not know an age. With all that being said, a big age gap is nothing compared to looks or weight disparity. If a good looking guy marries a woman who doesn't seem his equal (or visa-versa) there'll be no end of damaged people making damaging comments.
There are many quality touches in AW💘. Over a romcom-style ridiculous misunderstanding, Ban gets into a fight with a woman in a hotel lobby. They don't show the fight. They show a scant second before, and then how everybody's disheveled and miserable at the police station later. I like the way they did it. “Cut out the scar and the flower will blossom again”: The mostly dead plant is a metaphor for their love lives. There's numerous scenes of them in the iconic and comforting courtyard of her apartment complex. It creates a cozy feeling.
Speaking of cat hair, early on Ban’s hair looks awful. Cat lovers know that, depending on a cat's mood or current state of mind, their coats can change instantly. Her hair seems to do that. In the beginning of the show it looks dry with split ends and severely parted in the middle. It's unattractive. As time goes on it gets softer and silkier looking. It's a nice touch. She looks pretty amazing most days. Some of her outfits are dreadful ~ in any culture. But most of them are artful and many of them are sexy. AW💘 is also shoe p0rn. She's got a set of black spike heeled platforms with a hot pink platform bottom. Oh, I L😍VE them.
The office could have been better. Her coworkers are cartoonish. Apparently, in Korea, they love corporate shucking and jiving - more accurately shucking, tucking and ducking. They opted for something simple-minded. The storyline with her ex is almost boring, but that might be by design. Her interaction with Ha is exciting and the contrast is palpable. It's quite sad, though. Especially for her ex. He got a bad deal. His own passiveness, more than anything else, is what caused his misery. They couldn't avoid MSS, or mandatory separation syndrome. After they commit, she just has to go away for a year. It actually fits in fine, here. In most shows it's disastrous.
2 weddings are canceled. The 1st time, it ruins her, the 2nd one brings her back to life. When she's back to work after the wedding is canceled, she's alive again, but her hair is back to matted down and straight, with no personality. It's a severe look. It starts softening back up again when our duo slowly starts to get together again. She's definitely a cat
It's the romance that makes AW💘 worth watching, though. Mr. Park went on to super-stardom because he is adorable. Ms Uhm's laugh is fantastic. Their kissing is hot. The way he holds her face in his hands is sexy & intimate. They feel intimate. For a plant or hyacinth metaphor, the viewer can feel roots growing between them.
Don't watch the show and go on your merry way, because there's a few “don'ts" to be gleaned from these 16 episodes. Don't stare. Don't lose control of your facial expressions. Don't forget to be kind and considerate. Don't try to control anyone. Don't ask the obvious questions that this person(s) has fielded 1000 times already. Don't point the finger at them, even if they're different. Don't be another @$$hole. Mind your own business.
Stay Sexy, Seoul!

What happens when you forget the origin
1st few episodes were great. I was wondering why it was rated relatively low. This has all my fav settings.1. A career older hot female lead who is not a pushover
2. Not a simp ml
3. Great chemistry with skin ship
But everything goes down the drain after the fl's ex comes back. Here, except point 2, every good thing disappears. Fl becomes oblivious, stupid, selfish and a pushover. Mp becomes a punching back.
As they were not together, naturally no skin ship...
They should have solved ex situation in few episodes, rather than dragging the whole thing

The story's a little dated for me. I think that we don't have a real problem being explored in this. We see the age topic being an issue sometimes, but this isn't a big thing in the plot... The question about the love triangle was well done, even when I hate this kind of thing, haha. I think that they pass the idea of the sadness involving the disappearance of an old love and the born of a new one. I really could feel the pain in Ban Ji Yun's heart. That said, I think that they could make the issues deeper because things seem a little superficial to me.
The performances were good enough considering the plot. Park Seo Joon was a baby, and sometimes his was a little simple, but it was okay. Uhm Jung Hwa just looks exactly a powerful woman, I loved her! And I love Yoon Hyun Min too! I saw him on "My Holo love" but here I appreciate him very much.
So, It was a simple GOOD ONE (★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★ ★)! If you wanna something with impact, maybe you gonna be frustrated, but if you just wanna have fun seeing Park Seo Joon being cute, go for it!

Interesting to imagine how a 2024 remake would've done this differerntly.
*minor spoilers for Dr. Cha*I found this drama because it was on a list of recommended Noona Romances and I'm dying for something to fill the void as I wait for more episodes of No Gain, No Love. I loved Uhm Jung-hwa in Refund Sisters and Dr. Cha, so I was excited to watch this. Considering how Dr. Cha handled the Noona romance aspect, I was surprised at how this one turned out and that the age gap was 14 years.
As someone who's actually younger than Park Seo Joon (irl and in this story) it was interesting to consider how it's treated like a commonplace thing for large age gaps when the man is older but so much is made of the woman being older in this story. I personally wouldn't date anyone under 30, but this story made me sort of root for these two. I saw the obvious reasons they probably wouldn't have lasted more than a couple years after the end of the story (btw, this is the first time I've seen a drama end basically hinting that the couple might not make it). However, I still think they were cute in some ways and I liked how they supported each other.
This show gives 2014 in the most obvious ways. Besides some backwards mindsets re: women, the black and white stripes and white skinny jeans REALLY took me back.
Pros:
- Uhm Jung-hwa is so charming. I'd watch her do just about anything. She's adorable and it's clear how far she's come in acting from this to Dr. Cha. I always appreciate a story with a career driven woman.
- Whether you liked the friendship or the romance, Yoon Dong-ha and Ban Ji-yeon had comedic chemistry. I enjoyed a lot of their banter (minus the baby voice that slips into every drama when the couple gets together)
- I liked Ji-yeon and Na-rae's friendship. I love Ra Mi-ran and it's always a joy to see her
- Park Seo Joon's acting was phenomenal! He sold every scene and when they showed behind the scenes of him singing for the OST, I became a fan. This is my first time seeing him in anything other than Running Man and I get the hype. He was great!
Cons:
- A lot of romcoms are made fun of for the women having jobs like running Christmas Cupcake Shops or being some sort of artist that rarely enters the plot. Ji-yeon's entire thing is being a reporter but the magazine was never handled in depth enough to be believable. It seemed everyone working there aside from Ji-yeon was incompetent. The subject matter seemed to waffle from reporting serious issues like embezzlement schemes and medical malpractice to ideas about women left at the alter? Confusing.
- The ex boyfriend was dreadfully boring. I think they gave him a cool job in attempt to give him something he could compete with Dong-ha in, but there was absolutely no chemistry between the photographer and Ji-yeon
- I personally never cared about Soo-chol's relationship with Eun Chae aside from being glad she was no longer chasing her dead sister's boyfriend...
- Ji-yeon is meant to be an ace reporter but the start of the show is her breaking into a school campus to get a picture of a married man visiting his affair child. Only for him to just deny it and the magazine then struggles to stand by their article. What was the plan here? Why would they think the picture was enough? It seemed so weird a whole team wouldn't see how little a picture would prove.
- Acting is a bit hammy at times.
- It was too long. A solid 12 episodes would've sufficed.
If this show was remade today, there are some obvious things they'd change. For one, instead of her getting attacked over revealing a lovechild, it'd be a murder plot that lasted the entire season because most shows have murder plots now - even nonsensical ones. There'd be an age gap but they'd probably age the younger character up a bit. They'd do more to show the FL's soft spot earlier on and, godwilling, it'd be 12 episodes instead of 16.
Tbh, I think these two broke up after about another year or so because it seemed YDH had some time before he graduated and BJY probably wanted kids. But who knows, maybe they married before he graduated and made it work.
Tentative recommend if you're looking for a Noona romance and love Uhm Jung-hwa nearly as much as I do. It's by no means perfect, but I laughed and enjoyed watching it.

Certified for rom-com lovers
I love everything about this series except that I think It could have been much better and more realistic if Park Seo-Joon was paired with a prettier actress like Choi Ji-Woo. The plots complimented with the story very well..It also has that mixed emotions that most of us can relate to..Overall, I'm always fascinated with Seo-Joon's versatility as an actor..He's a genius!!! I have also watched his other series and movies, all of them showed how talented as an actor he really is..I believe that when he mastered the English language, he could be one of the most famous International Superstar someday..Way to go Park Seo-Joon, fighting!!! 😍😘🥰Was this review helpful to you?
Lazy writing, 2D characters and a lame long love triangle = a waste of time
I'm 99% certain the people who praise the romance and chemistry in this one are blinded by their love for PSJ. Both leads over or under act without hitting the authenticity sweet spot and the relationship circumstances are way less believable than the standard meet cute romcom. I'm a fan of noona dramas but this romance felt flimsy from the start - more love bomb than romcom - and it never got better. Then as soon as the illogical love triangle rears its ugly head the leads did a total 180 - FL goes from self assured to wishy-washy while ML goes from supportive to immature man child. If a story says one thing then expects a viewer to accept something different with no build up just to inject some drama it's frankly not a good story. Don't even get me started on SML, who's a romance road block instead of an actual 3D character.
The plot isn't anything special either - just lies, misunderstandings and miscommunications with some background office drama - so once the romance stalls there's no point sticking around. In retrospect I should have listened to all the comments telling people to skip episodes 8-12 but again: if you have to skip 1/3 of a drama to enjoy a drama it's not a good drama.

I started watching this drama because of the good reviews about good chemistry, good story line and the fact that it aired on cable was bonus because cable have more leeway…
As far as chemistry the two leads had it at spare, it was fun watching them together.
The female lead for me had it lacking- too much plastic surgery and too little on acting part…
I started this drama mainly because of the male lead, he did a good job in making me fall for him, I hope to see him more as the lead.
As for the storyline, it's hard to give the Korean touch to a foreigner drama, you have different mindset while watching a Japanese or a Taiwanese drama.
For me the attempt fell flat, for one thing I hated the fact that all Supporting Role were basically acting stupidly more the half the drama!!
As for the ost, the male lead solo is good!!
I recommend to try to Taiwanese version before or after watching the Korean one, it will give a good perspective on things.

Not worth of 8 rating
This is my first Korean drama I felt like Chinese dramas, all the brainless plots and characters are like Chinese. Shameless ML without bottom line, annoying and b**chy FL.When ML falls for FL he always thinks of her and wants to stay with her even though he knew she feels irritated and hurting because of him, but he always keep on nagging to her. Of course he is young but 25 years is more than enough to know what to do and what not. When she rejected him and told that she wants to be with her ex boyfriend he still keeps on hanging with her and visit her home or wherever she is, even though he knows that is embarrassing to both and mainly he knew she is getting hurt for seeing his face, even after he knew she is getting married soon and also when he saw her in the wedding dress he couldn’t stay away from her. After so many irritating incidents he decided to stay away from her but not for too long, he came back to old fashion. The most annoying and irritating part is because he is little younger (25 years) the director always wants to project his immaturity and there is no clear picture when and how he falls for her that much deeply.
Especially the FL is so annoying and b**chy. When she also had crush on ML she suddenly she accepted her ex and requested him stay with her when he is about to leave for work, after so many annoying and irritating incidents ML decided stay away from her, she didn’t let him leave she always asked him stay with her not to quit the job and not to leave the place he stayed even though she knew that is making embarrassment and irritating to both, and suddenly she realised that she has ML is her heart yet she wants to marry her ex and doing all preparations for marriage. She used to tell the FL to give up on her but she orders him to stay with her I thought this is sadistic and brainless, the most annoying thing is she suggest some girl for ML.
Here She is 39 years old but there is no incidents to witness that either professionally or personally.
