Beijing Bicycle

Wang Xiaoshuai is a film director, author of Beijing Bicycle, Shanghai Dreams, and Chongqing Blues. by China Underground.

Both movies are about Beijing inhabitants that live in hutongs ( type of narrow street or alley commonly associated with northern Chinese cities). They thematise the lack of privacy and the collective and social pressure.

In each movie, an impoverished teen faces social injustice while he struggles to make a living every day.
