Professor Namgung In, an emergency medicine physician and author, has broken silence on criticisms regarding the medical accuracy of SBS's Friday-Saturday drama Doctor X.

Recently, Professor Namgung In wrote on his social media, "Doctor X has finally begun airing. This is the first drama I have participated in as an on-site medical consultant." He added, "I came to realize that the scenes I used to watch without giving them much thought were the result of collaboration among many people, endless patience, and a mad obsession."

He continued, "Despite the extremely demanding conditions on set, the actors and staff were always kind and never lost their smiles. They all seemed like people who were quietly obsessed with their work."

"The very first outdoor scene in Episode 1 was filmed on an unbearably cold winter day at 3 a.m., when the streets were deserted. They sprayed water onto the road near Sewoon Sangga using a water truck before filming… I wondered if everyone had lost their minds." He added, "Anyway, everyone worked so incredibly hard, so I'm wishing Doctor X tremendous success!"

Doctor X premiered on October 9, getting off to a double-digit ratings start of 11.4% (episode 1) and 14.9% (episode 2), according to Nielsen Korea.

Despite the solid start, some scenes have drawn online criticism over their medical accuracy. The scenes in question include sending a patient with an inguinal hernia for emergency surgery, the anesthesiology team's response to a critical situation in which the patient's blood pressure could not be measured, and the use of a 300-joule defibrillation shock on a patient in cardiac arrest.

Perhaps because of these criticisms, one netizen asked Professor Namgung In in the comments on his post, "You did provide medical consultation for the drama, right?" Professor Namgung In replied, "Yes, I was an on-site consultant. If any medically inaccuracies appear, you can assume that the consultant and the production team argued over them, and the consultant lost." His response drew attention.

Meanwhile, Doctor X is a medical drama that follows Kye Su Jeong (Kim Ji Won), a genius surgeon who proves what it truly means to be a doctor through skill alone as she "operates on" a medical system steeped in absurdities.

The series marks actress Kim Ji Won's return to the small screen after approximately two years, following her appearance in tvN's Queen of Tears.
