'Where the Mask Ends': 5 reasons to get obsessed with Tian Xi Wei's new Chinese drama
ZEROBASEONE's Kim Ji Woong is set to star in the film Siren alongside actor Kang Ki Young.
Siren follows a third-generation chaebol police university student who commutes to work in a supercar and an ace detective who makes ends meet by commuting by bicycle, as they become partners.
The investigative drama follows a trainee and his mentor, who wants to drive the trainee away, as they clash at every turn. However, an incident brings them together to work on an investigation.
Kim Ji Woong plays Do Yoon, the youngest son of the Kangseong Group and a police academy student. Although he grew up with nothing lacking, a past incident led him to decide to become a police officer. Eager to investigate cases, Do Yoon readily uses his money and connections to tackle even the most difficult problems. As he throws himself into police work in his own way, he constantly clashes with Si Woo, who prioritizes rules and practicality.
Kang Ki Young will play Si Woo, an ace detective at Gangnam Police Station. Recruited through a special hiring process, Si Woo is dedicated to his investigations while working to make ends meet, aiming to earn a promotion early. However, Do Yoon, a third-generation chaebol heir and police university student, suddenly jumps into a crime scene and derails a planned arrest operation, leaving Si Woo facing possible disciplinary action.
The two men, who never wanted to cross paths again, reunite the very next day at Gangnam Police Station. This time, their relationship is detective and police academy trainee. To make matters worse, Si Woo is even offered a proposal to make Do Yoon give up on becoming a police officer. The conflict begins when a detective who dreams of earning a promotion ahead of schedule is saddled with a trainee he never wanted.
The clash between Si Woo, who is determined to get Do Yoon removed by any means necessary, and Do Yoon, who has no intention of giving up on becoming a police officer, eventually leads to an unexpected collaboration. The dynamic between the two men, who cannot stand each other but end up becoming investigative partners, is one of the film's key points of interest.
Filming for Siren has been completed. The film is currently in post-production, with its release planned for 2027.
