The drama also topped multiple charts, including Yunhe's market share of effective full-episode views, Dengta's full-episode view count across all platforms, and Maoyan's overall popularity and overall effective-viewership chart across all platforms.

The drama is also streaming simultaneously worldwide on Netflix, where it has performed strongly in overseas markets. As of October 19, it has entered the Top 10 in about 40 countries (FlixPatrol).

Where the Mask Ends follows A Cho, a lowly young woman who empties night soil from the streets — despised and bullied by everyone. However, her tragic life takes a turn when she unexpectedly becomes the bride of Lu Zhuo, the heir apparent of a duke's mansion, in a marriage intended to bring good fortune, all because she possesses a face strikingly similar to that of Wei Rao (Jun Dai), the daughter of a marquis.

A Chou is ambitious and determined to seize the opportunity to rise in status. However, her newlywed husband, who was on the brink of death, suddenly awakens, bringing one disaster after another.

Wei Rao resents A Chou for taking her place and is determined to get rid of her as quickly as possible, while Lu Zhuo believes her to be a vicious, scheming woman and remains constantly on guard against her. Beneath the Duke's household's outward appearance of harmony lies a web of traps and deadly dangers at every turn.

A Chou proceeds cautiously and plans her moves meticulously, employing a variety of tactics to win her husband's love. She also uncovers the secret of her own origins and is ultimately reunited with her family. Rising from a lowly night-soil collector at the bottom of society to a woman of high status, she carves out a prosperous life for herself.

Pursuit of Jade actress Tian Xi Wei is seen in dual roles of Wei Rao and A Chou, and Yan An plays Lu Zhuo.

Director Yang Long said the script is rich in plot developments and dramatic tension. During filming, the team ensured every scene served a clear purpose: "It must either establish character relationships, advance the plot, or deepen the emotional expression." Content unrelated to the main storyline was instead conveyed through flashbacks or voice-over narration.

Unlike the contrived feel of similar works, Where the Mask Ends delivers a satisfying payoff that meets viewers' aesthetic expectations. Producer Qiu Shui explained, "The female lead doesn't have a cheat code. She genuinely resolves one conflict after another through her own efforts, and after breaking through each impasse comes immediate gratification. That is what makes Where the Mask Ends truly satisfying."
