Netflix has confirmed the premiere date of its upcoming variety show Take a Hike! for August 18.
Take a Hike! is a hiking variety show in which four beginner hikers — singer Car, the garden, Do Woon, actor Lee Chae Min, and Tarzzan — who have spent their lives avoiding hiking, set out on the first snow mountain expedition of their lives in the middle of winter. The program follows the unexpected events that unfold as they take on the grueling journey entirely on foot.
The poster features the four members of Hasan Hiking Club, led by Car, the garden, alongside Do Woon, Lee Chae Min, and Tarzzan, each wearing a look of steely determination. Standing proudly beneath the towering, snow-covered mountains, the quartet's commanding presence heightens anticipation for the chaotic and unpredictable climbing adventure that awaits them.
The trailer opens with the group reciting the "Mountaineer's Oath" before setting off, only to reveal the harsh reality that awaits them. Their awe at the breathtaking natural scenery is short-lived, as the bitter cold and grueling conditions quickly force them to abandon their "Mountaineer's Oath," sparking laughter as statements like "I'm quitting!" begin pouring in almost from the very start of the trek.
One of the scenes shows a member hilariously lamenting, "I really like the show, except for the hiking." Even amid the constant complaints, the four participants each battle the challenges their own way, offering a glimpse of the entertaining ordeal ahead.
Another highlight of the show is the camaraderie forged among the four members as they endure the grueling journey together. The exhilarating sense of relief they experience upon finally descending the mountain, coupled with the warm and distinctive chemistry they build once they're back at the foot of the mountain, adds to the show's entertainment value.
Producer Park Hyun Yong said, "The biggest appeal of our program lies in the unfiltered chemistry between the members, who find themselves thrown into a harsh, arduous journey regardless of their will." He added, "Viewers will get to see the natural rapport that develops as they lean on one another in the face of extreme circumstances."
He continued, "Even though this is a variety show, we approached the subject of hiking with a level of seriousness that surpasses even documentaries. Viewers will be able to experience the enjoyment of watching both the unforgiving nature and the breathtaking beauty of the mountains, captured exactly as they are."
