On July 23, Netflix announced the Japanese Netflix series Parasyte: TAMIYA, which is slated for release in 2027. Director Yeon Sang Ho (Parasyte: The GreyTrain to BusanHellbound) and production company WOWPOINT are once again joining forces to introduce a brand-new chapter in the Parasyte universe.

In the original manga, Ryoko Tamiya, who opposes protagonist Shinichi Izumi, is a high school teacher in human form and a dangerous parasite that poses a threat to humanity. Living as a teacher thanks to her extensive knowledge of humans, she encounters Shinichi, who lives in symbiosis with Migi, and begins to question whether 'coexistence with humanity' might be necessary for parasites to survive.

The Netflix series Parasyte: TAMIYA tells an original story that explores the world through the eyes of Ryoko Tamiya — the one and only parasite who questions the possibility of coexisting with humanity.

Director Yeon Sang Ho serves as the planner and screenwriter, with Ryu Yong Jae joining as co-screenwriter. Production planning and production will once again be handled by WOWPOINT.

Actress Kutsuna Shioli stars as the lead character, Ryoko Tamiya. She will portray the many facets of the character that coexist within a single person — from Tamiya living as a human, to Tamiya as a parasite that threatens humanity, and finally to Tamiya as a being who gradually comes to question the possibility of coexisting with humans.

Commenting on her performance, director Yeon Sang Ho praised Kutsuna, saying, "She delivered a remarkably outstanding performance in portraying the journey of a non-human being who ultimately comes to understand both her own existence and that of humanity."

Parasyte: TAMIYA is scheduled to premiere globally exclusively on Netflix in 2027.
