Yang Se Jong addressed his recent weight gain that sparked conversation in a recent interview with a media outlet.
On August 19, media outlet Herald POP shared their interview with actor Yang Se Jong to commemorate the finale of his Disney+ original K-drama Low Life. The actor discussed the K-drama and addressed the recent public attention on his weight gain.
Yang Se Jong revealed his strong desire to star in the K-drama. He explained that after reading the script, his heart raced, and he immediately contacted the production team to confirm his role the very next day. He added that he was particularly drawn to his character O Hui Dong's "rawness" and ability to act on impulse.
To play his character, O Hui Dong in Low Life, which was very different from his past roles, Yang Se Jong gained 6-7 kilos. He said that looking in the mirror and seeing the character helped him concentrate on his acting. He noted that, unlike his romantic comedy roles, where it's important to look good, his focus for this drama was on becoming the character.
Yang Se Jong also addressed the photos from the Low Life press conference that became a hot topic because of his different appearance due to weight gain. The actor shared, "My ankle is broken. It actually broke twice. It wasn't just a crack, it broke again. It's upsetting to see the photos from the press conference, but there's nothing I can do while my ankle is broken. I was heavier than when I was filming the K-drama."
He added, "I went to two hospitals, but at first they couldn't find the cause. They said it might be a stress fracture, and my ankle was swollen, like an elephant's foot. I'm still getting injections, and it's not completely cured."
In closing, Yang Se Jong urged everyone to prioritize their health and safety.
