Do Hye Jeong

Hye Jeong is a brilliant woman who grew up and studied overseas, which leaves her somewhat out of step with Korea’s rigid social hierarchies. Concepts like being a commoner or an illegitimate child mean little to her; to Hye Jeong, those are simply things a person is born with, no different from a blood type. Because of this straightforward and rational outlook, she often clashes with Hui Ju, whose deep insecurities about her background shape many of her ambitions.

Despite their frequent disagreements, Hye Jeong is also the person Hui Ju relies on the most. Sensible and free of prejudice, she represents a piece of the fair and reasonable world that Hui Ju wishes existed.

When Hui Ju declares that she will climb the social ladder and marry into the royal family, Hye Jeong first assumes it is a joke. But as the possibility becomes real, she decides to enter the palace as well, believing that if marriage is a kind of business for Hui Ju, then she should naturally stand beside her as a partner. There, she meets Hyeon, who approaches her jokingly, calling her a “golden spoon” because of her privileged background, an encounter that leaves her both surprised and intrigued.
