FAQ to better understand the series

Hey!

I noticed there are some confusion about the drama, especially first episodes. Since the production company failed to explain it properly, and there will be viewers after the drama aired, I want to explain some scenes. 1. Why Xiao Jue didnt release the differences between He Yan and He Rufei? 

In the novel, He Yan and Xiao Jue met the academy while studying. They were pretty young. The last time they saw each other was when they were 15. He Yan joined the army overnight, and Xiao Jue went to war to clear the family name. Last scene shown in the drama but they changed the timeline. How they met again is different from the novel. In the drama, we see they met when Xiao Jue's father died in the war. Considering the grief and anger Xiao Jue felt , because Fuyue Army went to help too late, he probably didnt consider how He Yan looks. Then they met at the court and He Rufei shows. It is probably the only time Xiao Jue took a good look at the general and old classmate before him .

2. Why He Yan acted as her brother He Rufei?

He family explained as a noble family in the novel. When He Yan and He Rufei born, they were about to decline and lose their privilages in the capital, they desperately needed a legitimate male heir to continue and take the title. However, He Rufei born weak and physicans said he wouldnt live past 2-3 years old. Therefore, they made the absurd decision and changed the childs identity. Healthy He Yan become her brother He Rufei to take family title, sick He Rufei sent to temple in the name of He Yan. However, as the years went by He Rufei continued to stay alive and He family taught him everything like how He Yan fights, how she writes etc without the knowledge of He Yan.  

3. How did Xiao Jue find out He Yan is a woman?

In the drama, when wolves attacked He Yan and injured her arm, she used the cloth wrapped around her chest to wrap her arm. After Xiao Jue saved her, we saw them riding the horse and He Yan fell asleep. Xiao Jue found out He Yan is a woman when he felt her chest.  (Ep 4)

4. Why didnt anybody suspect her identity as a man?

It's not that believable to us, I agree with that. But at that time women stayed at home, learned embroidery, zither, etiquette and manners. He Yan is playful, has knowledge in martial arts and war. Even though they find her face and body different than men, how she acts and her knowledge is not like any other woman they think they know. Also they probably didnt think that a woman would join the army, stay with men day and night since this can ruin their reputation.

Hey, in the novel He Yan was married to someone before she died. Marriage was arranged by He Rufei and her parents. He’s not in the drama since they didnt include reborn

When & How does Xiao Jue learn that He Yan was General Feihong and that He Rufei killed her to  take her place?
