I think that Hui-Ju's father definitely loves her, he is just not good at expressing himself. He just does things behind the scenes. Like the fact that Hui-Ju went to an expensive school where she met the crown prince. I know that she could have had a scholarship, BUT if he hated her, he wouldn't let her go to a place where she can make so many connections. If the father hated her, he would definitely keep her away from opportunities like that. She literally calls the Prime Minister of the country oppa, if she never went to the special school, she would never have even seen him. Mr. Seong is definitely no saint, but he does stand up for Hui-Ju when it counts, in some dramas, illegitimate children are starved and beat up violently. At least Hui-Ju didn't need to suffer like that. I am well aware that mental torture is just as worse, but Hui-Ju is defiantly stronger because of it. That is one of the reasons the Grand Prince chose her.
Ashes In the West:
Its not HuiJus fault HE cheated on his wife and ended up w a child? So his actions are so not justified. Point blank.
pjyswae:
“his marriage falling apart cause of Hui-Ju” please tell us you’re joking
Let me go ahead and edit that out. Of course Hui-Ju is NOT at fault. The father is a CHEATER. That is not acceptable. I'm not here to justify his mistreatment, my message is being misinterpreted as I cannot relay my reasoning in an orderly fashion.

I get what you are saying. I agree I was thinking this at some poit after watching episode 7 and 8. Looks like the dad does care for her and maybe treated her this way to toughen her up for later in life. Haven't seen much in hteway of how the father actually deals with his son.
I think her father loves her in his own way. However, he fears what she can become if not controlled. Like, she is an illegitimate child, probably her mother is connected to nobility (or something as powerful as this). So, I think he fears what she can face if let her too free. In his character biography, it says that he thinks she looks a lot like him. Therefore, I have the theory that he has been trying his best not to let her shine that much in order to avoid people's attention on her. In a way that she could be safe.
And yes, I also think he is guilty of the overall past. And he probably did something bad in the past and is scared of biting him now.

I agree with you. There has been many dramas that show how badly parent can treat their child. The worst case even the servants can treat her bad, but she's well treated. It's just the nobility who shoves the word "illegitimate" in her face. 😅I agree that the emotional wounds he inflicted is just as bad, but yeah he did cares for her in his own way. After my dad died, my sister told me all the emotional wounds she got from our dad and I was shocked at first cause like I can see he cares for her though not perfect but he did care. So yeah, watching the dramas reminds me of my own dad who has trouble communicating with his eldest daughter.

The theories😆 I also believes there'll be something about Heejoo's background. We were never shown her childhood before she came to the house. And her father's reaction when she mentioned her mother's name is like "earth shattering" and not just "shocked". Or maybe he loves his wife now and don't want her to threaten that, maybe , I don't know. But I really want to go with the first theory.
What's important is that daddy withheld his love her whole life, thereby ingraining within his daughter an unfulfilled hunger to receive attention from cold emotionally-repressed men. This explains why Hui-ju isn't really attracted to the grand prince at all—she merely covets the title but does not desire intimacy with him—and their divorce can't come quickly enough! The 2ML would be a much better match for her, psychologically speaking.

I thought it was just me who thought that Hui-Ju doesn't really love the prince, I think right now she is just infatuated by him. The grand prince will need to work harder to win her over completely. However, I do think that the grand prince is worthy of Hui-Ju, at least in comparison the the Prime Minister who only realised his love after someone else took an interest in her.
