Please bear with me for my afterthoughts. I made the mistake of going to comments and read the continuous bashing. Can’t understand why people stuck with it if from first episode they hated so should have moved on to favored dramas. I’m totally convinced now of the toxicity of people who sees beyond any kind of reason but their own so called expertise. Ha. At least in this created space we can converse with open mind.
Let me say this definitely had flaws. My biggest issue is with the editing and flow. The connection of the lottery part and biological mom was messy. The latter could have been really powerful in the ending part of eves decision but somehow it disconnected. Lottery? Pointless except to say it helped to fund the space fertility program. Yeah, head scratching.
I was drawn first because of the cast. Love them and previous works…leads and all others I was familiar with. Then the premise of romance in space? Check. It peaked my interest. Then I saw the central theme of fertility and it became even more interesting. Yes it was bold and probably defies all science intellect (I don’t know all facts and it didn’t matter) that the so called experts are whining about. Sticking solely to the fact that this is work of fiction, I found it really fascinating and thoughtful thinking. I mean wow, totally new for me. The possibility is really thought provoking, especially for women who can’t conceive. It definitely made for interesting material, adding romance, humor, camaraderie of staff, personal conflicts (Go Eun’s relationship with Kang never cleared yet he was bold to claim they’re a couple, thought they were cute regardless), etc.
For ending, I would have rather they made it one (preferably the first) instead of options. I feel they didn’t need to. Was it to appease to audience. Personally, I was totally okay if it was her dying while she held his hand looking at Byeol. The message of her belief in science and its risks, fertility efforts in space, not giving up on her baby, and then she was able to make amends with her love all wrapped up to her satisfaction, even though cost to her life.
So much overthinking you’d think this was real in the loaded bashing. I totally enjoyed this for its presentation, flaws and all. It’s courageous work, and very creative thinking science fiction and more. Thanks again for this space.
