Hi Everybody

I`m looking for some recommendations of more serious and/or historically accurate  dramas. If going for the historical ones I don`t need them to be 100% historically accurate, as they are fiction works, but at least they should have the correct atmosphere and a degree of authenticity.

Period-wise everything until Ming Dynasty included (so no Republican era and around).

I really enjoy period "idol" dramas, wuxia and xianxia, but sometimes I need something deeper, with an added artistic value  (I`m a mood watcher, no offense to regular idol dramas of course).

I can enjoy both slower paced and fast paced/action packed dramas. Just please advise if there is a sad ending, as I need to be mentally prepared for those.

To give you an idea of what I`m looking for, here is a small list of works I have already watched and enjoyed (ABC  order).

Thanks in advance! ^^

・Luoyang

・Nirvana in Fire

・Pledge of Allegiance

・Ripe Town

・Riverside Code at Qingming Festival

・Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty

・The Longest Day in Chang`an

・The Sword and the Brocade

・Under the Microscope

・Under the Moonlight

You know, the movie Shadow (three kingdoms, but fictional kingdom) reminds me of Ripe Town on how crazy the story goes. Just in case you're interested to movie.

For drama:

A Journey to Love (wuxia, fictional history, bad ending)

Flourished Peony (Tang)

Prince of Lan Ling (Northern and Southern dynasty, half-fictional, bad ending but the people died is wrong if looking at real history)

Mysterious Lotus Casebook (wuxia, fictional, bad ending in extra)

Secret of Three Kingdoms (Han, half-fictional, fabricated body double is definite)

Under the Power (Ming)

And if you like Jin Yong, try The Legend of the Condor Heroes (Yuan-Song-Jin) as I like how loyal Yang Guo compared to the other two male leads (one like his teacher, one like two women, both run to hide from responsibility) from the trilogy. The actor also acted in Strange Tales of Tang Dynasty.

If you have time I recommend you watch : Long Zhu Chuan Qi

@autumn iris

Thank you for the recommendations!

I`m in for movies as well so I will check Shadows for sure!

I have already watched (and appreciated) Flourished Peony and Mysterious Lotus Casebook, and I`m watching Under the Power ^^

I have dropped A journey to Love because I heard about the tragic ending...

I will try Secret of Three Kingdoms for sure, looks promising and exactly what I`m looking for.

@tonydang

Thank you for the title, I have noted it!

I recommend The Imperial Coroner, one of my most favourite dramas! And also The Glory (I'm only on episode 6 but I'm really enjoying it so far).

And I feel you, give me a good historical drama before any xianxia lol.

@Alex

I have watched and liked both, thank you for the recommendation!

I have come to realize that the xianxia I loved are probably exceptions to the rule, and that I`m definitely more in for costume/historical dramas and wuxia ^^; I love non-xianxia fantasy though, like The Demons Hunter` Romance that is airing right now.

Possibly:

@emeraldarrows

Thank you as always for your recommendations!

I have watched The Sleuth of Ming Dynasty and I`m in the middle of A Dream of Splendor, The Ingenious One and Under the Power (various degrees of On Hold).

I have The Imperial Doctress in the Plan to Watch together with Goodbye my Princess, but the length and sad ending are holding me back lol.

Noted Love in Between and Love Story of Court Enemies!

was about to recommend Battle of Changsha because that's probably the most realistic (as it can be) historical cdramas i've ever watched. but it sets in 1940s and just realized you don't want that setting. -it also has the same team as NiF-  still, i'm lobbing it to you lol just in case you want to get out of your comfort zone

also, Story of Minglan. long but gold.  Think of it as the premium version of Sword and Brocade.

@ymynym

Thank you for your reply!

I heard about Battle of Changsha being very good, one day I might definitely watch it, especially when I need something different from the usual..

As for Minglan is in my plan to watch, but together with Yanxi Palace, its length always scares me away lol

Highly recommend Nirvana in Fire and The Longest Day in Chang’an—both are serious, beautifully filmed, and historically rich. Great acting and intricate plots too. If you want accuracy and depth, those are must-watches in the genre! Midway through my university semester, I realized I couldn’t keep up with back-to-back assignments. I needed help, and fast. A friend recommended domypaper.com, and it turned out to be the best advice I got all year. I used DoMyPaper essay writing service to handle a few tough papers, and they delivered well-structured, original work right on time. It really took the edge off my workload.
