I write for a living. It's pay cheque-to-pay cheque and I'm 99% of my life broke(!), but I have complete freedom and, when time permits (and I can suffer to be in front of a screen!), I get to watch films and call it "research". So I shouldn't complain.
Anyway, I've seen sizzle reels for films before - these are little clips that set the tone and/or sell the concept when directors are pitching to producers and/or producers are trying to find funding for a project - but I've never made one for selling writing!
So, my question is: in this modern age of TikTok, would having a 30 second to 1 minute clip be a good way to self-advertise?
What made me think this is because a mate of mine just showed me a cut he'd worked on over the weekend for some producer (you can view it here: https://streamable.com/5yl5vo). I actually really liked it and I loved the simplicity even more!
Other examples of sizzle reels can be found online, but the best one I've seen - which really sets the tone - is for the Daredevil reboot... that was, unfortunately, never made (here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_j5rb3R5iWs).
Do any of you, here, have any experience making sizzle reels and how would/did you go about getting eyes on it?
