I did not watch it either. Actually, I tried watching it three times and dropping it every time during the first episode: I found the story set up (twin swap) completely unconvincing.

What a coincidence! Now, that you mention this, I begin to remember that I – like you – watched the first episode and then dumped it. ^^;; But that was years ago, so I forgot about it. Also, I don’t know anymore what were the reasons. I only recall the feeling of not liking it.

I guess, I will give it a second chance someday. Maybe my experience or my mood is different now, so that I can enjoy it a bit more.

Hi Blue!

Your analysis was an absolute pleasure to read. This was such a well‑crafted comparison! 🩵💙
I recently watched both dramas, and I couldn’t agree more with the way you articulate the difference between a “story‑first” BL and a “BL‑first” drama.
You captured exactly what makes Hi, by My Luck feel richer and more cohesive, and why Love Me if You Swear remains surface‑level yet still a bit (though personally, not that much) enjoyable.

Your breakdown of character arcs, stakes, and romance development was spot‑on. Thank you for putting into words what I had only felt while watching! 🙏🏻

PS: I actually quite enjoyed the virtual fortune‑teller arc in Hi, by My Luck. I found it original and fun — but hey, that’s just me. 😉

Thanks so much for reading Ariane, and the for the award too! Yeah, sometimes watching dramas, you may encounter parts of a story that feel unengaging, or developments that feel unearned/unsatisfying for some reason. It's fun to examine why that is.

Is it just my mood or preference that day? Or are there crucial story elements missing here that would've made this more interesting or satisfying?

Haha! I had another drama friend tell me the same thing, so you are not alone in your enjoyment of that aspect of the story. It is a unique idea, especially for BL. I just wish it were applied more impactfully.

Imagine this: the kids in the competition start seeking the fortune teller's advice on how to win the scholarship. But the advice doesn't work, sometimes even backfiring on them. Then, Mawin is outed as the anonymous fortune teller. Suddenly, what Mawin thought was being helpful gets twisted into being nefarious and sabotaging his competitors. And this is what causes the falling out between him and the new friends he made.

Something like that might've made the fortune-teller arc more integral to the main plot, as well as making the reveal more impactful.
