My Journey with Asian films:

✨As an Asian myself, I grew up with Asian dramas, started around late 1990s and early 2000s. I watched a few old classic dramas released in 1990s and 2000s as a kid. A lot of old films I watched are not on MDL and I’m lazy to add them, so I just list the ones that are on here. :)

✨During the 2000s-2010s, I watched a lot of Chinese, Hong Kong and Korean dramas. As for Chinese and Hong Kong dramas, I’ve watched and enjoyed more period and historical dramas than modern ones, and I often re-watch my old favorites.

Japanese films always have a special place in my heart. I started watching more of them in 2015, after I watched the live action of my favorite anime Anohana. Japanese films are much less popular than other Asian films, so it's pretty hard for me to find where to watch the ones I want to watch. But sometimes when I can’t find the ones I want to watch, I end up watching something else that I accidentally find. It’s like finding gems. ❤️

✨I've also watched a few Filipino and Thai dramas

1st C-DramaJourney to the West (1986)
1st K-DramaDae Jang Geum (2003), or Glass Slippers (2002)
1st J-DramaTokusatsu series Sentai Gaoranger (2001)
Later: Anohana (2015)
1st Taiwanese DramaJustice Bao (1993)
1st Hong Kong DramaThe Condor Heroes 95 (1995)
1st Thai DramaKaew Lorm Petch (2008)
1st Filipino DramaMarimar (2007)

My Watching Habits:

  • A Mood Watcher

  • A Slow & Binge-Watcher

  • Avoid Spoilers

  • Rarely Drop (NDDer)

  • Rewatch a lot

✨I’m a mood watcher. I watch whatever I feel like, and don’t do watching challenges.

✨I re-watch a lot. I think you could tell that from the little amount of my completed titles, despite being in dramaland for over 2 decades now. I have a long plan to watch list, but often find myself re-watching my old favorite films. :)

I enjoy watching dramas slowly. I never skip or speed up while watching a drama. I often re-watch scenes while watching too.

✨I mostly binge-watch now, and can only focus on only one or two dramas at a time.

✨I rarely drop dramas. If a drama is on-hold, it means that I temporarily pause, mostly because I can’t find where to watch it. If it is dropped, it usually means that drama is old and impossible to find so I don’t think I can complete it, or there’s an actor/actress in that drama that I can’t stand anymore.

✨I watch all genres: Romance, Comedy, Fantasy, Slice of Life, Mystery, Thriller, Action, etc. It depends on my moods. I watch whatever I feel like at the time.

✨I choose a drama to watch mostly based on its synopsis. I don’t like spoilers so I usually avoid reading reviews or comments before watching. But I love reading different reviews and comments from others after I’ve completed a drama.

✨I have lists of favorite actors and actress but it doesn’t usually mean that I will watch all of their dramas.

My Ratings & Reviews: Mood Rater

✨I rate my films out of my enjoyment and I think I’m quite generous. I rate a lot of them high. I think I enjoyed a lot of the films I’ve watched, and tend to ignore minor flaws that I might have found in a film, as long as it gave me some sense of satisfaction or fulfillment.

✨However, I do pay attention to little details in a film and can be picky sometimes. I guess I just happened to choose a lot of great works that suit my taste.

✨I wrote down some criteria for my ratings below, but it’s not exactly the same way all the time. As I mentioned above, I’m also a mood rater.

My childhood films are often exceptions. I enjoyed most of them and rated them high. Even if I might not like a drama as much as I used to do when I re-watch it later, I usually keep my initial rating.

9-10

It gave me a sense of satisfaction and fulfillment, despite some potential flaws that might not like very much. It’s re-watchable.

8-8.5

A good one. I quite enjoyed it. I may re-watch it, or not.

7-7.5

Overall it’s good. There are great moments that I enjoyed, but nothing so special.

6-6.5

It’s a little bit disappointing, but still okay overall.

5-5.5

It’s watchable, but not enjoyable.

4-4.5

I didn’t enjoy it. There might be very few things or moments that I liked, though.

0-3.5I didn’t enjoy it at all.

✨Please keep in mind that my opinions about a drama are just about my personal taste. I may have a different taste from you. You can watch anything you like.

✨Please don’t take my ratings and reviews too seriously, as even I myself don’t take them very seriously.

✨I often write long reviews. Basically, I write them for myself, so I often add some personal experiences that I relate to the story or characters. I really appreciate it if you read through my lengthy reviews. ❤️

I don’t rate or review the films I haven’t completed.

This is one of my favorite songs: 月亮代表我的心 (The Moon Represents My Heart). I love both the original performance from Teresa Teng and this cover performance from Leslie Cheung. Sadly, both of them are no longer with us in this lifetime.
