Thank you! I mean, it’s a comical storytelling, right? Maybe due to cultural differences, or maybe because I don’t fully understand Japanese language, I don’t get the humorous parts several times. ^^
I'm not fluent in Japanese either and that's where the subs come in handy :D but yeah, Japanese humor especially in Rakugo concentrates on puns and cultural references that wouldn't be easily be recognized by a foreign audience. Consuming a lot of jidaigekis does help with the references.
