I'm currently watching You Have My Heart, and OMG ARCLEI THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR RECOMMENDING IT!!! It is so good; I'm fully caught up and it hasn't even done a complete 180. It has remained extremely RR all through out! I love how soft-spoken the ML is and how protective the FL is UGH

There's definitely a difference, and I think the commentary the social commentary matriarchies are trying to make would hit harder if they applied the same beauty standards actresses usually have to deal with to the actors they cast. Or if they want to cast an actor who doesn't fit those standards, make it something he agonizes over in the drama. Make him obsessive about skin care and cosmetics, struggle with an ED, and even consider plastic surgery. That's what most women battle in real life. But nope. Just put him in an apron while he continues to use a 5-in-1 body wash.

Yeah. That's why these kinda stories always end up feeling very shallow to me. You know me and my dislike of this selective realism that somehow always ends up including some sort of misogyny. Ofc, it's fiction, so they can do whatever they want and cherry pick what they do or don't wanna include, but the message rings hollow... and... underwhelming.

It's not good social commentary, it's not entertaining, and it's not swoon-worthy, so really, what IS it? Criticizing gender roles but only like 25% of said gender roles apply 😭 Yas queen, give us nothing!!

That is adorably precious and I'm a bit sad that I think that when it should be the norm 😭 Come on, the males of p much every species are going all out to look good and impress their ladies and human men don't even do the bare minimum!!! BRUH

Love that for her, tho! Such a cute scene and yeah, non-matriarchies once again serving way better RR than matriarchy dramas 😭

If you were the costume designer for TOHoMaY, what kind of outfits would you put the ML and other male characters in? We're talking cute, stylish, slutty (as much as you can get away with) outfits that fit the tone of the drama that would still allow it to air. Hot Young Bloods

Watched this movie hoping it would make me laugh, and it had some mildly amusing moments, but for the most part it was just kinda there...

I obviously watched it for the role reversal and I don't think it was worth it at all, tbh. I feel like it's quite RR for when it was made, but it's been over a decade since and I've watched so much actually good and committed RR, that this feels very lacking by comparison.

It had everything it needed to in order to be a solid RR, but the leads just barely interact and ML is more losercore than malewife, which has gotta be my least favorite kinda "RR" ML. Thankfully Lee Jong Suk is very pretty. I'd be lying if I said that didn't help, lol. FL was pretty damn cool, I will say. Unfortunately, she shows up a lot less than you would think and is kinda just there a lot, not doing much, just brooding. I do appreciate the commitment to letting her be an obsessive, overprotective delinquent simp, I just wish it would've been more focused on her pursuit of ML and their gradually blossoming romance, rather than gestures whatever the hell this ended up being.

Spoilers don't seem to be working well for me so crossed out just in case.

Genuinely, ||they don't get together until a shoehorned in last-minute non-RR ending, which pissed me the hell off tbh 💀 But in this day and age of tragedies pretending to be romances, I guess I'll take it...|| There honestly isn't really romance between the leads... it's about ||ML confronting and overcoming his playboy nature and dodging FL's advances here and there.||

It admittedly doesn't help that I watched Only the Wind Knows last month which was very similar. Didn't care much for that one either, tho, but at least the leads interacted more and there was character development in that one (and significantly less yelling), even if it lost itself in the mess of genres it was dong.

Overall, it's not bad, but it's just a mess. It focuses so much on ML being a playboy simpand the bullies and basically doesn't develop any characters or relationships at all, tbh. Things just kinda happen. The ending also was just... ugh, what even happened? I'm not sure. It was a mess. I already dislike coming-of-age/youth media, this isn't helping that case, lol

This literally doesn't even happen in the movie, bro... like???

RR Rating: Somewhat RR (on the lower scale)
Personal Rating: 4.5/10
Verdict: Don't bother unless you REALLY want a hit of some RR in a youth setting.

Late Summer and Early Spring

Another promising-looking upcoming drama... People say it's full-length but to me it looks like a vertical or mini- regardless... has some nice stills, but I have the suspicion that it won't commit, haha

Unfortunately, this one has been on hold for a while, and I don't think it's coming out anytime soon, if at all. The ML, Zi Yu, played a main lead in a Chinese BL series called Revenged Love in 2025 (it was pretty huge, i'm not sure if you would have heard of it or not), and since then he's been soft-banned/being watched so his projects are in a little danger. Oh yeah, and he also played that character who also liked the FL in My Lady General.

Late Summer and Early Spring looks super RR (and you're right, I'm pretty sure it is definitely NOT a full-length) but VERY unfortunately I've had my eye on it for a long time, and 🫩

Yes, it's the same director indeed!! I found this out yesterday and it raised my expectations even tho I've yet to watch LBtG, haha. Hopefully this becomes a trend for this director and we can expect more RR goodness from her in the future 😌 it'd be a dream come true

I haven't gotten to watch 19 yet, but it does have the same problem on my end of only going up to 17:26 😭 what is also weird, episode 20 is out and it looks like it has the full run time. I wonder what's going on there. Maybe in a little while it will be fixed?

Hi hi, I am ecstatic to find my people! I've been lurking around for some time and exploring MDL, but haven't gotten around to commenting. First things first, thank you Arclei so much for making this group, I can see all the hard work that went into organizing it! I also noticed that you added the GB/4i tag <3 there's great stuff in the community.

Quick self-intro:

I consume a lot of RR content in the form of the webnovels (hoping to see more visual media), it's my favourite trope/dynamic. My pet peeve is when they bait-and-switch or reverse the dynamic back to heteronormativity (I'm glad a lot of ppl seem to agree? XD), and I'm not too fond of body switch trope (but can watch it for the comedy/performances).

For FLs: immediate turn off if the FL is a jiao qi (trophy wife), I love FLs in/with power, FLs who can dom, protect and pamper their partners. For MLs: disabled, hurt, low self-esteem ML, ren fu (househusbands) and nan-mama ("male mommies"), and the scholarly-gentlemanly types. It's hard to find good RR that hits the spot, so sometimes that means compromising quality story for the kinks & dynamics, or compromising a good plot for not so perfect RR.
