I was looking through my BL watch list to start a new BL, but not a currently airing one. I came across the Ossan's Love series, but I'm confused about the order to watch them. Thought I would watch all the Japanese ones then see the Thai version later.
I've seen Ossan's Love 2018 a long time ago, but is it a remake of Ossan's Love 2016? Should I watch the 2016 original too? (There's even a 2021 Hong Kong remake)
And what order should I see the next titles?

Ossan's Love: In The Sky (wonder why Maki isn't in this one)
And prob last is Ossan's Love Returns 2024
I saw the trailer for the Thai version of Ossan's Love Returns. I don't know if I've ever seen Earth in a comedy role like this. I barely recognize him!

What i do is check which year they came out if the year is like 2021,2022,2024 than I'd watch the one from 2021 first(indicating it's first right?)
In this case the first Ossan's love was made in 2018,later it was "love or dead" then after it was "In the sky" If that's confusing I'd just search it up on google you know.

I've actually quite surprised that you rated it as high as you did. I know that it was quite popular at the time, but it seems like exactly the kind of Japanese comedy with over-the-top acting that you dislike. It's never really gotten my interest till now, but maybe I should give it a try!
My understanding is that the 2016 single episode was successful and led to the 2018 full series, i.e. one can think of it as something like a pilot episode. While I doubt it would add much for you, it's just one hour, so sure, why not?

Yes, this seems to be the correct order. It's interesting that the three "Returns" titles (the Japanese 2024 series + the two "Returns" Japan specials) have significantly higher average MDL ratings than the earlier titles.
There's even a 2021 Hong Kong remake
Again, I've not personally seen any of these, but I vaguely remember Chun Mo saying that he thought the HK remake was better than the Japanese original.

Yeah, I'm grappling with this same question. I guess I should watch the original at some point for historical interest (i.e. for its pivotal role in popularising BL in Japan), but I really doubt I'll ever make it through all ten titles.

I'll probably pick up where I left off, after Ossan's Love 2018 and go from there...see how I feel about watching more or not. I do want to see the Thai version cuz it looks like it'll be more fun than the J-series.

It's really late, but I chose to start DMD Friendship The Reality S2 tonight, and I have to force myself to stop and go to sleep soon. I'm loving a few couples a LOT. I'm getting too invested in some of the pairings. It's not healthy. 🙀

Oh, I loved that so much - even though it was probably even more scripted and pre-ordained than S1. But whatever, I don't mind. It was great - and like S1 with Gen 3, S2 succeeded brilliantly at getting me totally invested in the new Gen 4 artists, especially the new CPs. They also handled the S1 "leftovers" really well. Domundi is so good at this!
