It’s not that the cost isn’t worth it, I just don’t like being manipulated into paying more.dora:
Yeah, I don't mind paying for my regular subscriptions but I don't like feeling manipulated. On the other hand, I'm a patient tightwad, so it's hard to get me to pay on impulse, or to lure with me extra NC scenes (which don't do much for me anyways).
p43425:
I will. Of the three currently airing JBLs ("Depth of Field", "I Became Lead in BL Drama S2", and "Stay By My Side After The Rain"), none is top tier, but so far I like "Depth of Field" the best.
On Saturday, "10 Things I Want To Do Before I Turn 40" begins airing, which at the very least sounds quite original.
The fifth JBL of this wave, "The Proper Way to Write Love" ("Renai Ruby no Tadashii Furikata” - not yet showing on MDL), is supposed to start airing on July 14 ( la fête nationale française, or as we crassly say elsewhere "Bastille Day". Vive la France!). I'm especially looking forward to this one, but to be honest, that's only because of the cuties. (I have no idea what the story is about.)
I watched today's first episode of "10 Things I Want To Do Before I Turn 40" (Gaga). Too soon to judge, but so far I'd say "OK but not top-tier". Of the four currently airing JBLs, "Depth of Field" remains my fave. The four are all very different from each other, and "10 Things" is more of an office BL with a mid-life crisis element, so this theme might particularly appeal to some.

This brings the currently airing BLs that I'm watching to 12, as follows. These are ranked below roughly in my own order of preference and weekly enthusiasm (which can be quite ideosyncratic and influenced by the pitter-patter of my heart), with the average MDL ratings shown in parentheses. For the series which aren't very far along, both my ranking and the average MDL rating are subject to significant change.
"Next Prince" (8.2 / 8.5 uncut)
"Revenged Love" (8.9)
"Boys In Love" (8.4)
"Knock Out" (8.1)
"My Stubborn" (7.6)
"Depth of Field" (7.9)
"Mission to the Moon" (6.8)
"Boys Vibe" (7.8)
"Stay By My Side After The Rain" (7.7)
"I Became Lead in BL Drama S2" (7.8)
"10 Things I Want To Do Before I Turn 40" (new)
"Suntiny" (7.3)

@frandisa
now i really want to watch more of the HIStory series. But I will probably skip MODC. I can only watch so many shows that make me cry. But I do want to know the progression of BLs over time and think it’s important to go back and watch the older ones in order to really understand the industry. Plus there are a lot of good shows that we miss otherwise.
I really loved MODC, but yes it is difficult to watch. The storyline is difficult and very tragic, but it's a beautiful story if you're seeing beyond the surface. It holds a lot of meaning and the preciousness about the value of life and time and growth. It's one of a few that are favorites of mine that I haven't found the strength to go back and watch a second time just yet. So, I completely understand where you're coming from. Stay With Me is another one, my number 1 favorite above all BLs, that I can't bring myself to watch a second time yet.
Yesterday I restarted Secret Relationships, watched the first 2 episodes. The second episode ended in a cliff-hanger but I'm not going to watch the next one today. I decided to rng my way into completing my currently watching list (has 36 entries). It's quite a lot of fun so far. I watched something everyday since July 1st. If only I could continue this way throughout the month.
@ZhouYanRanHannah:
WOW you are one of the OGs if you started while Love Sick was on.
Yes, I can proudly call myself one of the OGs (I'm just that old 😆).

That actually makes me wonder: how did you all get into BLs? Did you accidentally come across one and decided it's for you? Has someone introduced you to the BL world? I'm really curious of your stories (I'm sorry, if you've already shared them before and I don't know about it).
My story started almost twenty years ago. I grew up in a conservative environment and was brought up quite intolerant, so me being a BL fan comes as a surprise. It all started with British and German soap operas (Hollyoaks, EastEnders, Verbotene Liebe, Alles was zählt), which I had been watching for language practice purposes. The gay storylines in those made me realise - we're not that different. Then I watched QAF US and the rest is history 😄 When I started watching dramas back in 2007, there were no BL dramas, only some films (I started with Formula 17 and Go Go G-Boys). Slowly some gay storylines started to appear in dramas (like Gloomy Salad Days or Hormones) and finally in 2014 we've got our first real BL drama - Love Sick.
Watching BL dramas came very naturally to me. Oh, those were the times... One BL drama for months, I've watched anything and was grateful for anything, no matter the quality (that's why to this day I'm very lenient towards BLs). Nowadays there are like twenty different BLs per week and I really have a hard time to keep up with all of them. I can't imagine how hard it must be to become a BL fan in the present time. I would feel so lost and overwhelmed by the amount of BLs produced so far, I wouldn't even know what to watch 😱
BLs have come a long way in all those years: kisses evolved from lip touching into "tongue-fu" with strings of saliva, confessions evolved from 'I don't like men, I only like him' into 'I'm gay/bi', NC scenes evolved from nonexistent into cinematic masterpieces, holding hands evolved into holding... something else 🤭 It's been a privilege to watch all these changes happen throughout the years 😍
Happy Birthday to my baby Phuwin! He’s 22!

@ZhouYanRan
wow you have been watching BLs for a long time! I only discovered kdramas when i watched an American show with a Korean actor (Sense 8.) Then a friend told me that actor would be in a Korean show on Netflix (Stranger) so I watched that. I got hooked on kdramas and once I added Viki it recommended Semantic Error when it first came out. After that I watched all the KBLs I could find. A friend finally suggested I try Thai BLs so I watched Love in the Air. Then there was no going back. I watched every kind of BL after that. I still watch kdramas sometimes but they don’t hold my attention like BLs.
WEEKEND DRAMAS CATCH-UP:
Loy Kaew First Love ep 6
I expected that ending, I saw it coming since episode one, so this time I have been mentally prepared. I enjoyed the main storyline, but the subplots were somewhat confusing to me.
My Sweetheart Jom eps 6-7
I swear, Jom and Yo are going to make a great couple, because they both seem to suffer from some sort of a hero complex. They just keep on sacrificing for others.
Yotin has clearly fallen in love already, now we're waiting for Jom to see him as something more than just a boy he needs to take care of.
I'm super grateful for grandma. She's a wise woman. I aspire to be a grandma like her one day 🤩
There are also those two girls, who will hopefully fall fo each other and fast, because they're annoying me so far.
Pit Babe 2 eps 8-10
The plot is moving forward. People are getting captured, some are sacrificing for others, some are betraying them, some are kissing their pain away...
I'm highly disappointed in the last two episodes, since there was not nearly enough KentaKim scenes to satisfy me. I'm happy for NorthSonic fans though, finally something is happening between them.
We've got some nice KentaKim scenes in ep8. We've got their first kiss. Kim confessed (we're all in this together), and Kenta's walls started cracking. Kim fell first, but will Kenta fall harder? Can't wait to find out. I'm so waiting for Kim to infiltrate the enemy's base and save his man...
The Next Prince eps 8-9
Lately on The Royal Games:
Chakri is us
Dyrane: driving prince charming
Headphones as a cure for trauma
Prince Ramil and Paytai: who is in control?
Prince Calvin's travelling diaries: Meenanagarin
Prince Khanin's ignorance is concerning
Let's start a riot: close the mines before more people lose their lives
Assassination attempt - who pulled the trigger? Who's pulling the strings?
Friendly advise: trust no one and have eyes in the back of your head
Mr Thatdanai: I'm a survivor!
Khanin is starting to get on my nerves. At first he doesn't give a fig about the kingdom and its politics. He's clearly not interested in anything, but Charan (just look how he behaves during his lessons). Then he's a witness to one outburst at the protest and now he wants to become the protector of the downtrodden (while still lacking the basic knowledge of what's going on in the kingdom).
I'm not sure what prince Ramil and Paytai's situationship is or what their couple dynamics actually are. Let's wait and see how it develops. It feels like it's still too early to make a proper judgement. I do think, though, they're both traumatised by Ramil's father and in need of theraphy.
I still trust absolutely no one in that crazy kingdom.
I haven't noticed it before, but Vedish is a cutie, I like him 🥰
My Stubborn eps 10-11
Ever since my theory turned out to be wrong, I kind of lost my interest in this series. I don't know why, but I feel like something's been missing these last two episodes, and no, I don't mean the NC scenes 😛
Boys in Love eps 10-11
I personally think Kit and Shane make the most suitable couple in this show. I love how mature they are, the way they communicate and support each other.
Kim and Mon are super cute together (I love Aston and Chokun), but they've been having problems with communication, especially Kim. I understand him though. Before Mon came into his life, he's been rejected a countless number of times. This is his first serious relationship, no wonder he's desperate to keep it. He's just choosing the wrong way to do it. He needs guidance and Mon needs a lot of patience.
Tar and Per decided to stay friends, I guess? No progress there.
I've still got a soft spot for the teachers' couple. They can be so serious and unserious at the same time. Also, I understand Tan more, than I'd like to admit. I'm glad, he's got Nut in his life.
Kiseki Chapter 2
Season of Love in Shimane eps 1-7
I've watched this series because of @RXinw's posts 😅
First season felt like a Korean travel TV show with some gay NC scenes on the side. That's it.
Second season though... It's still promoting Japanese tourist attractions hard, but we've got some plot here. I'm enjoying this series so far.
P is my favourite character. Firstly, I love the way he looks at Pan. Secondly, I love how rational he is in his jealousy (any other BL character would be throwing punches by now). Thirdly, I love how willing he is to try out Pan's ideas. It looks like they're having fun in the bedroom (or bathroom for that matter) 😜
I like the other couple too. Tontae is funny as well.
P.S. I can't believe all three Sunday dramas are coming to an end this week
This brings the currently airing BLs that I'm watching to 12, as follows.p43425:
I started two on your list, The Next Prince and Boys in Love. I have the first on-hold and dropped the second. I don't know if it's me or something in the air where I live, but I lost interest in both partway through. Even after a good start. Usually means I'm bored or the story is lacking smth.
Hopefully Revenged Love will keep my attention.
Did you start My Sweetheart Jom yet? I watched EP 1 and put it back on my PTW list, lol.
ZhouYanRan:
Hi, I'm back! Have you missed me? Because I've surely missed you. I've got a lot of catching up to do and a lot to write here, so please, bear with me 😅 I'll try to be as quick as possible.
@ Indie Art Girl, I'm so sorry for your loss, I hope you're doing better. I'm sending you the warmest hug 🤗
Hi and welcome back! 😁
Thank you so much for asking. I'm doing better and currently spending time with family. Nothing like a chaotic environment for distraction, but tbh I'll be thankful for the peace and quiet when it's time to go home, haha.
how did you all get into BLs? Did you accidentally come across one and decided it's for you? Has someone introduced you to the BL world?ZhouYanRan:
I think I found my first BLs by accident on YT a few years back. I don't remember details except they were Korean. I was already watching dramas, mostly K and C dramas. I don't know of anyone irl that watches BLs and the only place I talk about BLs is here with all you kind and patient people. 😆 😆
strings of salivaZhouYanRan:
Ugh the visuals. Sensitive me is grossed out now. 🤣 🤣 🤣
40 Made ni Shitai 10 no Koto is the series in question. :Done day:
I'm looking forward to this series!
