Meet You At the Blossom
I ended up binge-watching this over the last two days. I loved it! I had never seen a Chinese period drama before so I had to get used to some things, and the political plot was very confusing at first. I didn‘t really care though because I like the stylized quality and the main couple. ive Watched some period kdramas which all have lots of political infighting so that part wasn’t surprising, but the addition of some even minor supernatural elements is different from kdramas.
I liked that the main couple didn’t try to hide their romance and everyone knew about them. Even though people said they shouldn’t be together as a gay couple it was pretty low-key dissaproval so that was nice. In truth, if haui-en really was the first prince he probably could do whatever he wanted in the end even if it was frowned upon. The violence was very stylized so it didn’t bother me as much as it could have. I wish the period where the main couple was fighting and apart was shorter but it wasn’t that big of a deal since I binge-watched it. Also they definitely neglected the little sister’s story while she was kidnapped.the ending was lovely, though, and the little sister constantly interrupting them was cute.
if anyone’s interested, the second couple from meet you at the blossom are the leads in i‘ll turn back this time. It’s nothing like meet you at the blossom, but if you like those actors…. It’s a modern-day setting with supernatural elements but a lot of homophobia. i was dissatisfied with I’ll turn back this time, just for the record. The ending was sad And felt like a condemnation of gay love. They made a short extra episode that fixed the ending but it wasn’t enough for me.i Watched it on GagaOOLala but the extra episode was on YouTube.
my Biggest complaint about meet you at the blossom was the dubbing. It really annoys me. The only reason I can tolerate it in any of the Chinese shows is because I’m so busy read the subtitles, I'm mostly not looking at their mouths talking.
still, glad you were all talking about how great this was or I never would have watched it. The comments on the MDL page made me think there was a terrible rape scene so I was scared, but in fact they showed almost nothing. I know some people objected to some non consensual or gray behavior, but it was barely shown so it didn’t really bother me. Plus it’s not a realistic drama anyway so I can separate it from reality.
i liked it so much im finally contemplating watching the untamed. Like Rx, I normally don’t watch bromances, but I know a bunch of you love this one and now I think it might be fun as long as i know what to expect. It’s just long!
Sweetheart Service
youtube/Strongberry finally release the full episode 12. Yay! Overall I thought this was a light, cute drama. Fake relationships is one of my favorite tropes so that added to the fun. It had a few interesting story twists and a satisfying ending. If you are looking for some Korean cuteness I would definitely recommend this.
Kita-kun, Our Shared Love https://kisskh.at/793222-kita-kun-ga-kawai-sugite-te-ni-amaru-no-de-3-nin-de-share-suru-koto-ni-shimashita
This is not a BL, but a “BL adjacent” comedy that features two women and a man all dating one guy (sharing him) and living together. So there is a MM pairing but so far there’s very little romance in general. I’m watching this because after Takara’sTreasure I have been crazy about Yoji Iwase. He is indeed still a joy to watch, but he is not featured nearly enough. The focus has been on his partners more than him. Also now there is a scandal about them all living together in a poly relationship. I am curious how the show will deal with the social issues around the polyamory but frankly I wish there was more actual romance and more focus on Kita-kun’s character.
