Stay By My Side After the Rain EP 4 or Another Reason Why I Have a Hard Time With J-Dramas
This ep triggers an extremely annoying behavior for me, and applies to both BL & straight J-dramas. I'm not saying this series has a female exactly like I describe below, but the situation applies.
When the (usually) female character, or side character on the female's behalf, has to make their liking the other person into that person's responsibility and even going so far as to make that person accountable to them (the female) by requiring an explanation of why that person doesn't like them (the female) back! (R U with me?) Like really?!? WTH! 😡
Sometimes the female goes further by not accepting whatever the reason is, lays on a guilt trip or insists on forcing their way into the other person's life. In my mind it's either emotional abuse, narcissistic behavior, and/or stalkerish, depending on the story. I don't get it. Never has it made sense in all the J-dramas I've watched. It's such a freaking turn-off. Like I wanna reach into the screen and slap them silly kinda feeling. Like who r they?? 👿
In this ep a third-party co-worker is speaking on behalf of the female co-worker who likes Kanade and is putting Kanade on the spot regarding his dating choices and accusing him of crossing the line when SHE actually outed him then and there. I LOVE that Kanade spoke up for himself and said to the co-worker TWICE that it's not her business and that she doesn't need to understand. I was shocked cuz I think that's a first for me to see the victim ML in that situation speak so directly and firmly in J-dramaland. Go Kanade!! 👍
PS - I don't mean to ignore the terrible treatment Mashiro's mother is heaping on him!
That's my long post for the next few months or so! LOL
