RE: Promise of the Soul

Doesn't it have a sad ending? Or maybe I'm mixing it up with a different BL.

its a HE, but some people were upset about something (id avoid spoiling ^^) , its really good imo

Oh, ykw? I just checked the drama page and I did try to watch it. I remember now cuz I posted my thought about why I stopped watching before EP 1 was even finished. I guess I'll pass lol.

ElementalStar:

The solution is to now name the underdog dramas that we thought were pretty good but didn't get great ratings. 😉

Does anyone have any of those?🤔 Kind of curious now.

Only three so far:

Deep Night - MDL: 7.4

Hidden Agenda - MDL: 7.3

My Stubborn - MDL: 7.5

Double Helix - episodes 5 & 6

I have comments, but I will save them for now because I want to see how things play out a little longer.

What I will say is that I have a strong dislike for Cheng Yi Chen's brother.

Good riddance that Lu Feng's father is dead. I have more in depth comments to make regarding this, but I am honestly just lazy to type them out; moments like this I wish voice notes were a thing on here lol

I look forward to the next episode, especially since I am waiting to see something in particular.

I was really excited to watch this when the show started, but after finishing ep6, I’m not really sure where it is going. Or maybe I just don’t want the whole story to revolve around being gay or coming out ruining their lives. I never watched the original version so I don’t know where it’s going.

I thought this was a toxic BL so I was expecting more obsessive or controlling behavior. I actually like toxic characters so I’m kind of dissatisfied so far. Lu Feng is no Fan Xiao. But Ayden Sng is really hot.

I agree that the younger brother is annoying. Their brother obsession is silly and doesn’t fit with the tone of the rest of the show for me.

I hope it gets better.

Also, the sound effects during the second couple’s NC scene did not match what they were doing. You can’t pant and full-mouth kiss at the same time. I know this is a small detail but it ruined what could have been a good scene.

Finally, why is there smoking in all the Chinese shows? I know some of the other countries are trying to purposely keep it off television but still, do the Chinese really smoke so much more than everyone else?

dora:

i think it will be hard to attain fan xiao or kelvin level, they had set the standards high lol

Lol, I noticed that too. They probably think that it adds something to the character. I've actually seen a lot of people making edits of characters blowing out smoke, so I guess fans find it cool or something, even though smoking is disgusting imo.

Also, it's not just Chinese. I don't remember the last time I watched a Thai or Japanese drama where not one person held a cigarette.

You're right that portrayal of smoking is not limited to the Chinese productions, but I think Dora has a good point that the Chinese seem to glamorise it more, e.g. in "Revenged Love", maybe because it's a particularly male/macho thing to them (?). In any case, to me disgustingly unglamorous - blech!

i'm thinking of watching this love doesn't have long beans. i've heard about and seen some gifs on tumblr regarding how horny af they are in this show. and it's got me curious. especially considering i only just realized the show's leads also portray jeffalan in pit babe. how did i not realize that before now?

I rewatched it like a month ago it wasn't mind-blowing but I enjoy it. The leads have a good chemistry which is important for me.

Same with To My Shore the cigarettes were part of the main cast.

I did a poll since opinions on Century of Love seemed divided. For now, the votes aren’t really representative since there are no votes for “didn’t like it,” so don’t hesitate to vote 😄
