Apart from my own interests and hobby for politics and geopolitics, the Westminster system of government modelled from the UK that exists in Jamaica and most other Caribbean islands, results in law and politics intersecting in numerous areas; the executive is comprised of members of the legislature, most importantly the Prime Minister. Unlike in the USA where the separation of power doctrine is strictly applied by virtue of the US Constitution. The doctrine in the Anglophone Commonwealth Caribbean Constitutions is implied and not expressed; it is strictest between the Judiciary and the other arms of government. Judicial Independence is the bedrock of our democracies. Hence, if you are a law student here you will encounter politics.

If I could, I’d read about all the countries I watch shows from. Sometimes I just try to figure out what elements—like smoking—are in the background of enough dramas to reflect on actual societal trends. Drinking culture in Korea is a good example, or belief in luck and all kinds of prayer in Thailand.

This is very good exercise for the mind. It deepens your thinking when watching BL series and other dramas.

A Brief History of Korea

I am currently watching documentaries on the rise of Xi Jinping - the current president of China. China's system of government is complex, but the one constant and foundation is the Chinese Communist Party from which all power and authority emanates from. The structure of the party is very rigid. Combine all these things and it becomes apparent why social change is so difficult to achieve such as LGBTQ progress.

We can only hope that some change is taking place with the recent influx of Chinese BLs. However, I would not bet on it until the next generation takes over the party - a changing of the guard.
