We officially have three Mandarin historical BLs! If you ignore the censored mainland china dramas.
Meet You at the Blossom: I liked some things about this and hated some things about this drama so it ended up being middle ground for me. But a least a happy ending.
Kill to Love: I liked this a lot more but the editing was choppy, as in seemed like some of the story was cut, making the flow of the plot a little jagged and of course the ending is either sad or bittersweet depending on the individual.
Journey With You: I believe this is the winner here. I loved the rebirth trope (one of my favorite things) and I liked how Yin Qi had limited knowledge of what actually happened in the 'future' and because Pei Yan Zhi wanted to protect him from everything, Yin Qi was kept in the dark. It also makes sense seeing as Yin Qi was at the boarder for 3 years up until his death. So it made sense for him to struggle with making any significant changes by himself with no information until episode 6 when he confesses his rebirth to Pei Yan Zhi and they finally start working together. I also love the resolution to Yin Zhou's story line. I thought it was very fitting. Pei Yan Zhi keeping his poisoning a secret and trying to run off and die alone is in track with his character, ๐
but was also a little frustrating. Honestly this last episode was amazing to watch, including Yan Qi's confrontation with his father and all the sweet moments between the couple. And yes, happy ending, but I was left a little unsatisfied with the end. I would have preferred it if they had done the reunion a bit different instead of trying to surprise us with the 'oh you thought he was dead' bit. But I think this drama is definitely a step in the right direction when in comes to historical BLs. For non spoilers: yes happy ending, one last non-explicit sex scene as well.
Overall: I'm quite happy that this drama ending on my birthday! ๐ It has everything I love, favorite trope, historical, mandarin language, long hair, and a happy ending. Best birthday ever.
