I think a lot of people were disappointed in the last episode and it makes me reticent to watch it. :(

I watched the ending and I'm now very confused.
Do they mean it to be open ended? Or do they both die because of the comet falling on them?

I thought it was an open ending. I didn't want them to die, so I was pretty relieved with this ending. I'd like to think they were allowed to go hand to hand in a future together, and that Zhan Wang's operation bought him some more years with Xu Yuan.
For sure not the best ending ever, but a sad ending was a no go for me 🙈
from what i read from the comments, it was supposed to be open-ended. which i seldom, rarely, one-in-a-million chance, that i enjoy, so i removed it from ptw lol

Definitely not the best ending, but it was good enough imo. Better than a sad ending for sure.

And speaking of cuties: I'm really looking forward to today's episode 3 of "Lost To Light" (iQiyi) one hour from now. It's flimsy fluff but adorably cute (both the vibe and the actors).

If you want something lighter watch Cherry Blossoms. Everything else you have is serious to heavy to toxic. I really love 180 Degree Longitude but it is artsy and sort of like a play and mostly psychological so you need to be in the right headspace.
