Kiseki Chapter 2

We don't need to watch the first chapter to watch it ?

There is no first chapter. It makes no sense. The first season is “chapter 2” and the second season is “season of love in shimane.” Unlike most series, the second season is much better. But don’t watch either unless you like explicit NC scenes, because that’s the highlight, lol.

Thanks ! And I have nothing against explicit NC scenes. I thought they were pretty good in 4Minutes, for example. 😊

Here’s my list of shows I would call, “mediocre but fun to watch.”.

From your list I really enjoyed these titles enough to give them an 8/10.

Blossom Campus
Be Mine Superstar
2 Moons 2 (2019)

And 9/10 goes to:

Secret Crush on You
Enchanté

All the other titles I've rated much lower, dropped, not interested or can't watch. (My "sensitivities", yk)

OMG best ever(4Minutes, I mean) before Payback. Both have the same screenwriter, tho, so it makes sense.

Here’s my list of shows I would call, “mediocre but fun to watch.”. Not the same as “train wrecks.”

Great list. I've watched the great majority and enjoyed them to varying degrees, some quite a lot.

I even considered a few of these titles (e.g. "Unforgotten Night", "Magic Move", "Love Alert") for my "trainwrecks which I enjoyed or even loved" post two pages back but wanted to be strict about my "strong validation" criterion (MDL < 6.5).

I should add that this criterion is a bit unfair when comparing old BLs with recent BLs because of the ratings inflation that we've talked about in this group, i.e. a BL with an average MDL rating of 6.3 five years ago would now (on average) get at least 6.8, maybe even 7.0.

dora:

Takumi-kun Series: Drama (2025)

I don't understand why this got such low ratings (6.6). I would not call it a trainwreck at all; the production value was quite high, and the cutie quality was chef's kiss. Maybe because it was confusing as a continuation of the 2023 movie and had a boatload of characters, especially by JBL standards? Anyways, I loved it.

dora:

Hard Love Mission (2022) (stars Tonliew) I loved this despite the super low rating. Mr. P does too.

By no means a masterpiece, especially the weak/cliché writing, but it's a cute, sweet, easy watch with my dearly beloved Tonliew, and it doesn't try to be more than what it is. I refuse to call it a trainwreck!

(@Dora, I know that you didn't say that it was. I'm just explaining why I didn't put it on my own list, despite the average MDL rating of 6.4.)

dora:

Tinted with You (2021) stars Junhee in cute period drama

Inexplicably underrated (maybe because viewers were expecting a more serious and in-depth time-travel drama?) - and the movie version is only about 90 minutes, so it's a quick watch and nice BL love story which gets much better as it goes along.

As often the case in this group when we talk about older titles, this list from Dora reminds me of titles that I haven't thought about in a long time and, in some cases, gives me the urge to re-watch them. This is one such title.

I keep a list of repeat Thai nicknames so I can differentiate people with the same name. I actually have more “Fluke”s than “Ohm”s, but if I count K-pop stars as well, “Mark” wins. Overall, though, the list has about 160 names. I’m starting to have to just learn Thai first names for some because I can no longer remember who’s Tee2 vs Tee3 or Ohm4 vs Ohm5.

Yes, with Flukes and Ohms I always learn the nickname together with the proper first name - or else use a differentiating nickname like "Ohmkrit".

GMMTV, which alone has three Ohms and two Flukes, should take a lesson here from Domundi (e.g. "TeeTee" vs. "Thee", or renaming JJay to "JT" to avoid confusion with "JJ").

Actually, these English-friendly Thai nicknames are absolutely brilliant and probably a significant reason for the international success of the Thai BL industry.

Love Is Better the Second Time Around Season 2 episode 1

The first season of this show is one of my favorites, and I’ve watched it at least 3 times. Although it is definitely “second chance love,” a lot of season one involves flashbacks to their high school days, which adds an additional charm and poignancy. I don’t mind second chance romance, in fact, I like the idea of making up for youthful mistakes.

Season 2 is about the now established couple, and it looks like the focus will be on dealing with former lovers showing up unexpectedly. I’m not a huge fan of love triangles and jealousy, so I don’t imagine this season will have the same charm as the original. Nonetheless, it still appears to be well-done, and it still has the great chemistry of the original couple.

Plus, it’s always refreshing to see adult BL couples dealing with adult relationship issues.

There are many shows I have been postponing starting because I have too much on my CW list, but I just couldn’t resist revisiting these beloved characters, even if I know season 2 won’t be as good.

When I saw the titles 1000 Years Old and Eye Contact, I could remember the posters even though I couldn't remember the stories.

@Tiffany, I should mention a point of interest: Poon Mitpakdee has a supporting role in "1000 Years Old", i.e. before he joined GMMTV and became a headliner.

Although this one isn't a good example because it's only two years ago, I especially enjoy seeing well-known BL actors in their early roles, e.g. Ohm Pawat, Peak Peemapol and various other familiar BL faces in "Make It Right" (2016). Ohm Pawat was only 16 at the time, so needless to say, he had already changed enormously by the time of "Bad Buddy" (2021).

Another prime example: My most dearly extra beloved Fluke Natouch in "My Bromance" (2014), which was already five years before my all-time favourite BL love story "Until We Meet Again" (2019). Even when he was barely 18, Fluke was already an extraordinary actor!

I forgot they had the same screenwriter, but I’m not surprised.

Interesting ! I’ll make this title a priority. I love Poon ! I just checked, and Poon had two shows airing at the same time in April 2024 : the end of 1000 Years Old and the start of We Are. Rewatching Make It Right with baby Ohm Pawat would feel so weird and funny at the same time. 😂

Today is a JBL day for me ! My goal is to binge-watch The Boy Next World and Ordinary Love.

Currently watching episode 2 of The Boy... : If Sara from another world is here, where is the Sara from this world ? Maybe they switched worlds, and Fuu in the other world is the one saying that they’re a couple instead of Sara, so it’s the opposite situation from the world we’re seeing. 🤔

Yet another "season 2" of a JBL from last year, which I see as an especially healthy sign for the JBL industry: "When It Rains It Pours: Mellow Rain" (S2) starting Nov. 6 (not yet listed on MDL, international platform not yet known)

We now have an international platform and start date for "Oops! Mysterious Sounds": IQiyi (uncut) starting Friday, September 18.

Oh, so happy they got a second season ! I’ll probably binge-watch this one around Christmas. 🎄😊 And like you said, I also think it’s a good sign for the JBL industry.

The Boy Next World - My Destiny : It wasn't bad, but I didn't love it. I just wasn't that invested in the story, and I don't think it really grabbed me. I would have loved to see more of Jin and his mind-reading ability, though. And as always, Shoma is so handsome. 😍

Ohhh thanks! I've been meaning to watch WIRIP, now I have a reason to bump it up my list.
